Need help with lock actuator - out of warranty
My 06 330 with Comfort Access now has 26,000 miles on it and is out of warranty. I was really bummed last night when I went to get in and the driver door made some strange grinding sound and then would not unlock. I had to use the key in the remote to unlock it. Since then I have found all doors to work fine but the driver door. It will lock but not unlock.
I've been searching threads this morning and found these: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=door+lock http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=Door+Unlock I still can't find the answers I'm looking for so here goes: 1. Since my car's warranty was up 2 months ago, has anyone ever gotten their doors repaired outside the warranty? It is a known BMW issue and I'm hoping there might be some TSB that will fix these but I may be out of luck. 2. Since my door will only lock and not unlock, could I still have a fuse problem? To my understanding, it wouldn't work at all if it was the fuse. 3. Has anyone bought the part from Tischer or another source and made the fix themselves? Do tell. I've made this repair before on a Lexus GS and it was no fun but better than paying someone else hundreds to do it. What part exactly do I need? 4. Since I have Comfort Access, once the bad actuator has been replaced, is any additional programming needed to address the CA option? Thanks for the help. David in NC

I also found this diagram. What part in it do I need? Is it Item #1 with the arrow?

- How difficult was it? - I know you unhook the battery first and then take the door apart. What other challenges did you find in making the repair? - Does your car have CA?

That price is outrageous. You could have ordered the part on the internet and had a local mechanic put it in for much less. Some people don't seem to mind paying high dollars if they can just drop it off at the dealer.
I often wonder how many cars BMW would sell if people weren't scared of maintenance costs like that to fix a door lock. Good grief.
