Lend you my 320D & you put petrol in!
Lent my friend my 320D sat night so he could take his girlfriend out, he didnt bring it back until Sunday night when he had just put half a tank of Petrol in & then as he drove down the motorway wondered why it was ill so he brought it back to me with the line "your cars broke"
Had it picked up today & got a call about half hour later telling me the problem is it has petrol in it. Not happy |

Has he told you how empty it was when he filled it up?
Scratch that, if the car started playing up then the petrol has got into the fuel lines/system. Off the top of my head you're probably looking at the fuel pump and injectors at least... |

How close are you and WHY on earth did he need to borrow your car?!

He was doing his mate a favour.......... that's what mates are for. I would be highly annoyed too but it was a mistake and not intentional. Lets hope he covers all costs. |

Did you tell him it was a diesel? What damage has been done is another question, and if only a few miles, you may not have too much to worry about. |

Okay, I'll 'fess up to doing this on a previous Audi A4 PD130 Sport I owned..
Shell garage and I thought I was putting VPower diesel in it but..... Tank was empty and I BRIMMED it. Got about half a mile down the road and blow me, the damn thing stoppped! Why did it do that, thinks I.... ohhhhh ssshheeeetttt.... However, my local garage just towed it up the road, drained the tank, flushed diesel though, ragged it round the bypass and VOILA, good as new. Cost me £60.00 Try this first......

At the end of the day, a car is a car... I lend friends my cars all the time, as long as I trust them!
Don't get me wrong, I ADORE my cars, but when it comes down to it, I get pleasure from doing a good turn for my friends... If they crash it, they pay the excess and the insurance pays out. If the damage it or indeed misfuel it, they pay the damage! As long as they do that, and respect my cars, they can keep on borrowing them for as long as I live |

I wouldn't let anyone drive my cars either but the OP did and his mate cocked up but he seems ok with it overall and his mate is going to cover the costs.
Maybe his mate hasn't got a car at the mo Carl or his has broken down (no jokes lol) and they needed to go somewhere and a taxi was too expensive...........loads of reasons. |

Well for me I would only lend my car if it was a MAJOR emergency or
family emergency. Not just so a Mate could take his bird out. Seems a little weird.

Last weekend, one of my friends was going to the Lakes for a weekend with his girlfriend for their anniversary, and didn't want to take his Defender so he took the TT. At the end of the day, it's a piece of metal that can be replaced...The smile on your friends face when you give them the keys is priceless |
