FBI agents

Any agents here? Has anyone tried out for the position in the past? I'm going through the hiring process now. I'll be going to phase 2 this Friday in NYC and have been practicing all week long! Any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

Well, I'm not asking anyone to give me the actual questions for the interview... just looking for advice on how to prepare for the test. I'm just really nervous about the test/interview. It would be nice to hear from someone who has gone through the test before.

My wife said to me the other day I should try to be an FBI agent lol. I wouldn't even know where to start considering I have no police or military background.

go to the FBI website, it will lead you to a link to submit your application online. You don't have to be in law enforcement to be considered. They hire more lawyers and accountants than anything else. I have a computer degree with management background in airport systems but for some reason, I was called in to go thru the testing process. It's a lengthy process, so if you want to join, you should start now.

I submitted my app online in Jan, they called me in June for Phase I. Now I'm in Phase II. The whole deal will take at least a year if not more - depending on your background check, your physical fitness, etc. Remember, they don't hire anyone older than 35. Once the opportunity is gone, it's gone.

Yeah, I was just looking at it. I would have to qualify under diversified which seems like it's highly selective. I'd have to hit the books again. Although I was looking at the fitness test and by the scoreing scale I would prolly score pretty high in that. I'd atleast crush the minimun of 12, heck I'd get the full score in the untimed push-up. I can get nearly that much busting them out in a minute let alone at a relively easy pace.

I may submit an app for fun in diversified as grad school is not appealing to me haha. The only thing I'd consider is something in computer science if I had to go back.

Damn, I've been training for the past three months and I'm just now able to get the passing score of 12 points. 50 situps in a minute, 50 secs in 300 meters, 50 pushups, and 11:30 in 1.5 miles. They have to be done within 5 mins apart in that order. Running is not my thing, maybe because I was a smoker for many years. When I started three months ago, I was getting only 2 points!

p.s. - if you speak another language, they would be more interested in you under the diversified group.

What position did you apply for? My brother never had to do a test such as the one you're discribing above

I guess I can say you're definitely not looking for an office job

special agent. Your brother probably applied for a professional position which does not require a physical fitness test. Definitely not looking for an office job; That's why I'm trying to get out of my current one.

I'd do 50 or more of the situps, what style of situps, full up to the knee touch or more of a crunch style touch?. I've never timed a 300 meter but I'd guess I could do you at 50 secs or better. I'd do all 71 of the pushups pretty easily and just stop, why even continue? With mild training I can do a 6-7 minute mile so prolly 10 mins or so for a 1.5mile jaunt. Then again knowing you don't have to pace for further then 1.5 miles I could maybe come close to 8.59 or below.

I played some college sports so I'm pretty athletic and can get back into it fairly easy.

No, I speak no other languages. I've always wanted to grab a rosetta stone set though for fun.

My client's husband just "made it" in last year.

I don't recall much, because the conversations were scattered here and there...

What I do know is that you only have a certain number of times that you can apply. He was on his last! I also know that they do have a race/gender quota.

I think that you have a lot of interviews and with 5 or so people at once. I think that is one of the last steps, the physical test/interview came first.

Ummm, I think that's about all I know. Oh, I think they only take a certain number of people from each state and each occupation. (He is a cop turned lawyer, or a lawyer turned cop, don't remember which.)

And if you do make it, you usually get moved to some bumblefuck town and have to "earn your stripes" there. Then you can put in for transfer to somewhere better.

Good luck!

i just remember when i looked into it years back you didn't necessarily need a law enforcement or military background. I believe the minimum was a degree with 2 or 3 years work experience. Bilingual was also a plus. An acquaintence of mine tried out a couple times and it definitely took him over a year to get through the whole process. I remember him telling me that they interviewed his neighbors, and not only your family members/relatives. Best of luck to you. Hopefully you get in

Last time I got a recruit booklet from the FBI during career fair, they're hiring a lot of engineers too. I guess its for forensic, investigation, analysis, and background support.

Thanks. Yeah, if I do get the job, it will most likely means relocation.

So is your client's husband at the academy now? ?

So he probably made it in? Because they don't do background checks until you pass phase 2, which at that point, they will give you a Conditional Job Offer. After that, if you pass your background checks, polygraph and medical, you are going to the academy!

When I was getting my DoD clearance the most important thing was honesty. They asked questions just to see if you would tell them everything 100% or hide some facts. I still got the job even though I've been arrested in the past...

Even if you pirated software or stole sneakers in HS, they will probe. And stick to your strengths, don't BS on topics you know little or nothing about.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I saw a post online, this person went through the polygraph test and he mentioned that they were asking him everything from drug use, illegal downloads, porn habits, regrets from the past, etc. It sounded really personal. He failed it, but he claims that he was not lying. He said he was just nervous when telling about his prior drug use, and that might have caused the result looking like he was lying. If he is telling the truth, it sounds like they could possibly fail honest people.

But I guess I don't have to worry about that yet. Need to concentrate and pass this interview tomorrow. Wish me luck guys, I'll make sure to keep you guys updated. I should know the result by Oct 1st.

Yes he got in and currently works in one of the offices in the bay area. When I was trying to become a police officer, I went to these seminars and different officers spoke about their experiences and there were a few of them who started out as police officers, and then applied and got into the FBI, and then after a few years came back because they said they didn't like it. I forgot why they did that though
