Shocked by trade valuation

As some of you already know my E92 335D SE is soon to depart after 3 years and 80k miles.

Anyhow my employer's lease company sent a letter asking if I wanted to by the vehicle at the GRV of £15865! This is based on a 25k miles per year lease. All I can say is that:

a) they are trying to rip me off,
b) they are going to get stung again (Sherekhan was on the same lease deal) and
c) I was shocked when I saw the Whatcar valuation last night.

Can the vehicle really have lost £28k in 3 years?

She has never let me down If it were not for the kids getting bigger I would have had another. Only issues have been:
  1. The run flats seemed to attract metal leading to several unrepairable punctures
  2. The front passenger's head rest rattled
  3. the drivers lumbar support button broke
  4. front drivers seat needed lubricating to stop a squeak
  5. gear knob selector chrome paint is wearing thin
  6. Boost hose replacement
  7. autobox needed software reset due to poor changes in a low gear under load

Not bad really, considering the performance and very heavy use

Good!

I think the guide you posted is more realistic than the price they have offered you!

I'm thinking about selling mine now its gone over 80k.

Trade value is about right. Look at autotrader, they are fetching between 16-17k for 3yrs old and that mileage

I don't think the lease company offer is that bad, have a look on autotrader for how much 335d's are going for.

Least you know how urs has been treated/looked after.

What are the Whatcar valuations based on, given most BMWs come with at least some options?

Is this a base vehicle, no option price?

I've always wondered about lease companies, selling the car to the driver, I mean if they sell you the car cheap, you won't then have another lease off them as a company car, it makes more business sense to sell the car to a dealer cheap and then hopefully you will lease another car from them

JW what was the GRV value on your original lease documentation?
has the GRV price of the car changed for better or worse.

I thought my GRV at 3yrs (£11.5k) was comical - As you know I managed to get the better of them by relieving them of a car with a dead engine.

So I got my money's worth out of them.

mssond - I think our employer does this as a so called benefit - Sometimes you want to keep the car in the family.

Anyhow our employer now doesn't allow us to opt out of the car scheme - on the grounds of H&S. They think we the employees are incapable of servicing and maintaining the car on time as we drive high mileage. By the way the definition of high mileage is 8k miles plus.....

So we would have to get another car from the lease company anyway.

The GRV they quote is the same as the contract at £15685

My car will be replaced exactly on 3 years as the new beast is built and just arrived in stock.

I am low mileage by the way as most of my driving is commuting at 94 miles per day.

ps are you one of the approx. 20 people in A&D who have gone for the 520d (according to the Sales Director)

Well this makes interesting reading:

Note that the Value includes Prof Nav, but ignore the '18" Wheels -£1000' as this only applies to M Sport Models

Including myself I personally know four of those cars, also know five as of next month. It was a good deal - it worked out cheaper than a 320d. So it was a no brainer.

hey, the 520D is fab! Driven an 8spd auto version and it really is a fantastic car - pulls well, drives well and most importantly for a mile muncher, feels great inside. The cabin is a really nice place to be and makes the 3 series look positively low rent in comparision (bearing in mind lots of 3 ers cost more than the 520d 5 ers!)

I think most people would agree, the surprising thing is the value! at 28k and low low CO2 it is the best value car on offer on our fleet. Being sold by the dozen and is the beast for Sherekhan.

The pull though is not strong enough once you have had a 335D, so I am looking elsewhere

I went to look at a VRX8 today and asked the salesman for a p/x price on mine (2007 07, 335d SE, Space Grey, Black Dakota, 230's, Pro Nav, Active Cruise, BT, Voice, Ipod Kit, High Gloss Black trim, etc etc) with 81k on the clock but in excellent condition, FBMWSH.

He went away to speak to his boss

"we can give you £11k for yours sir"

"£11k? Glasses books it at around £15k trade"

"Glasses like your car, we use CAP, who value it at £11k"

I checked the CAP valuation....bottom book in "poor" (bodywork needing repair, trim missing, no SH etc) condition = £11,500

They wouldnt budge on their offer, so I walked

Yeah you can't beat a V8 for sure. Although a mapped 335d will give a standard VXR8 a run for its money.

But the soundtrack eh. If only it wasn't a Vaux! I do think they are pretty ugly?!

How about a 335i? or too much of the same?

this is so comical.. although as we all know, some poor sod will, at some point, take them up on their poor offers!

What do they cost?

Thought about a 335i, but like you say, too much of the same. Thought about an e46 M3 as I love the rasp, but then i'd kick myself for not waiting a bit and getting an e92 M3
