BMW DTM Racing Coming to USA in 2013
The German DTM touring car race series, to which BMW has just announced a return in 2012, will be coming to the US in 2013! The plan is to stage 12 races of this high-performance four door sedan racing series in the US beginning in 2013, races which will be staged with NASCAR and Grand American road racing events. Traditionally, DTM races take place on European tracks such as the Nurburgring and Hockenheim.
According to Autosport magazine, Hans Werner Aufrecht, director of DTM's management group confirmed: "Beginning in 2013, we hope to have a championship with 12 races in the United States." He also stated that six races are to be staged with Grand-Am and six with NASCAR events. What types of cars compete in DTM rcing? DTM race cars are production cars (i.e. BMW, Audi, Mercedes) which have been modified for racing. This is great news for American BMW motorsports fans as the dual announcements of BMW's return to DTM racing and DTM coming to USA will provide additional opportunities (in addition to the ALMS in which BMW currently competes) to watch BMW racing on both television and in person.

This is sooo sick! But I thought I would take the opportunity to ask what the tag on the front of the cars means? It says I <3 (something), Ive been trying to figure this out for a while now...

I think the roof is the only part from the streetcar. DTM cars are basically formula cars with a tintop. DTM is the second most high-tech motorsport series after Formula 1. But with the new regulations which i think will be more in the way of ALMS GT2 type of cars where they actually do have something in common with their street-version. But today, nothing except the roof. If, even that. Btw, SuperGT will use the same regulations so except the asians to join any of the series and vice versa. Quote:

Some could argue that ALMS cars are more high-tech than F1 cars.
Try running a 24hour race with several quick driver changes on a track like the sarthe in the RB6 But that's a topic for another thread |

Nice try, but most of the hi tech stuff used in ALMS or any other race comes from F1.

Awesome. It's about time BMW take advantage to the E92 V8 platform in the DTM.
Formula 1 was just a cash cow that yielded no results.

The other cars in DTM are 4 doors, so why wouldnt BMW do the same and use the E90 (which I like better anyway)
