Insideline: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG track video
This Insideline website tends to achieve very slow acceleration times, I'm pretty sure the car is way quicker than just 4.8 seconds. However, the sound of that V8 is amazing and so is the speed it went through the slalom.

Over 4,400 pounds, that's just sad. Of course it will probably be even faster when it gets the 5.5l tt motor. My mom's had a few SL's and frankly, I've never understood why anyone would buy an SL over the competition, they're terribly boring to drive.

Don't forget that Mercedes AMG are always comfort/luxury cars first and performance cars second. If you buy one for performance only you're buying the wrong car. If you want comfort/luxury but with good performance, then they are an excellent choice.

They managed multiple 335i runs that came around 5s 0-60 and 4.8s rollout to 60, right where most other recordings have landed. I give Insideline more credit than most other publishers.

Do you guys think the SL's curb weight is news? It's been around forever. It's always been heavy. Just because it's had a facelift recently doesn't mean it's lost a couple hundred pounds. It's always been a fat GT.

I guess I just didn't realize they'd gotten quite that fat. I realize a folding hardtop, a 6.2l V8 and all the fluff can't be light, just didn't realize they were two metric tonnes.

The 6.2L V8 isn't all that heavy relative to other performance engines. I think it's really the folding hardtop and the structural rigidity necessitated by it that really makes the weight add up.

But people should remember that for an everyday real world street car, that extra weight comes in handy when a SUV rams into you..... |
