I finally finished cleaning out and re-organizing my garage and am looking for a decent 30-60 gallon air compressor. Does anyone have some brand recommendations? Tools I'm looking at for now are below. Brand of tools would also be appreciated. I asked my brother and the first word(s) out of his mouth was "Snap-on!"

- Impact gun
- 1/2 right angle socket
- Die grinder
- Polisher/Buffer
- Gravity-fed spray gun (already have this one with a smaller compressor)

So far I'm eying an Ingersol-Rand and already have a 230V outlet set up. Link

I have a craftsman 33 gallon. It is awesome. It is kind of loud though. This one runs on 110v.

Whatever you do, don't buy a reed style compressor. Get a piston style. Reeds are so loud you cant even stand in the same room when they're on. Pistons are way more money, but worth every penny.

I've been reading that 110V are louder than 220V. More volt, less amp, less work, less noise I guess. As far as reed vs piston, I need to check what that IR compressor is. Reviews I've read so far is that it is on the quiet side (for a compressor), but their word "quiet" might be subjective.

Trust me, reed compressors are "Holy fucking hell" loud. You don't want one. IR usually makes piston, but expect to pay over 300 bucks for one. Look here for info.

They def. are, but I don't mind because it's in the garage and fills up pretty quick. I had to get a 110 because I didn't want to run a 220 from the basement.

What is the minimum clearance the stationary compressors need around them? I have 30" from the wall to the door-line where the vehicles would come in.

I just saw one review that said a minimum of 18" was required so....damn.

Oil-less compressors are usually ridiculously loud and have a smaller service life vs the oiled version, but they're cheaper. Dual stage will put out more CFM than a single stage compressor, but they usually require 208VAC input.

Get a compressor that will be enough CFM for the tools you're trying to run and if you're planning on using it a lot, I'd recommend an oiled version.. The rest really depends on your budget. Name brand also makes a difference imo. Ingersol Rand which was mentioned above is like the Lexus (I say Lexus because less issues than BMW ) of compressors and as such will be a higher cost.

I have to dial back the capacity of the compressor for space limitations. While I would prefer the 60 gallon stationary IR, this 27 gallon 3RHP unit seems to fit the bill for most of my applications at the moment. The most air-intensive tool I would have right now is a 6" air buffer, which requires 8CFM @ 90PSI. Campbell unit puts out a little over 10 at that PSI, plus it has wheels so I can re-position it when required.

Wondering if anyone on here has purchased one of these units before. So far the online reviews of this unit are that it is the best all-round portable unit without breaking the bank.

I'd rather make a larger investment at the start then down the road, get a new tool and find out I'm not getting the full potential of it because of my compressor.

That is the one I mentioned in my earlier post and that is also why I probably can't fit it in my garage. IR vs CH is an 8CFM difference at 90PSI for $300 (Northern tools). I would go for IR to negate any potential of having to upgrade down the road, but I think for my weekend warrior workshop, the CH will (hopefully) do just fine.
