Popped my HPFP Cherry @ 8400 miles!

So I purchased a brand new 2010 E92 335i back in February. Fast forward some months and I got a engine malfunction: reduced power error message @ 8400 miles!

You would think after 4 revisions, they would have fixed it by now. I'm a bit miffed that this happened so fast. Was I expecting it? yeah, but i wasn't expecting it this soon.

I called local dealership and they said to bring the car in right away. I was going to do roadside assistance but realized that its not needed as the car is comfortably parked at work and can drive to dealership no problems, albeit at reduced speeds.

what is the latest update to the HPFP issue? is the part # ending in 943 the latest fuel pump?

i also heard that when they replace the HPFP they do some software-side changes. Is this a good idea? should i tell the dealership not to do this? thanks in advanced.

Popped mine at 9,400 miles, and I also wasn't expecting it to happen so soon.

After having the old HPFP replaced, the SA told me a bs story about how the new HPFP is a fix to the problem. We'll see if he is correct...

Yes, they did update the software, which I believe is required for the new HPFP. You can always ask your SA about what your options are in regards to software updates.

Geezus man!!! Are you doggin' it much?

I did notice a little hesitation at start-up this morning with my car. Wondering if I'm due for a second HPFP soon.

This is not uncommon and shows the HPFP really doesn't have anything to do with it. People who go 40-60k with no issues and a car that's a late '06 or '07 build, they have the oldest fuel pump, as do I. Why hasn't it failed yet? Because these cars lack the root cause.

It's such a cheap way for the dealership to get the customer out the door, and I think the remanuf. pump is under $300 list. The only cheaper way is software.

It's like a jogger going to a doctor saying he can't seem to finish a road race in the same time as before, so the doctor gives him a 1 hr. arthroscopic knee surgery to shut the patient up and make him feel better, without looking into the root cause of the problem.

This wouldn't find the root cause either, but it would cure the problem once and for all. But BMW wont do it for customers who don't scream at their SAs and make them open a PUMA case. And this method costs too much $$$, it would bankrupt the co. even though they charge 5k more for the exact same car in 2k10 as in 2k7.

It is hard to believe they can still not figure it out and correct the problem.

so, the car is being serviced over the weekend. service assistant is stating that BMW is mandating more detailed analysis of any HPFP issue, hence why its going to take longer than usual.

am currently driving a 128i convertible loaner. not a bad car! at least it won't go in limp mode as i accelerate on the freeway!

FYI, was not aware of the ABC News 20/20 investigation on it. Here is link
