BMWNA e-mail fail

Did anyone else notice in the latest BMW news (marketing) e-mail:

"To update your BMW, use your turn signal stock or iDrive control to change the time of your vehicle’s clock"

Also, the links to "see the video" on how to do this take me to a generic "look up your owners manual" page (in every browser I try)...

DST happens different times in different regions. My folks in Europe switched last weekend. Not to mention that even here in the States the time we switch has changed within the last couple of years by pushing it further back.

As for the stock/stalk fiasco, that is just embarrassing. I see "insure" and "ensure" swapped all the time too. Yesterday at daycare they had a sign up that said "Tomorrow is photo day for the kids, make sure they look there best" This is at a facility molding young brains..... Makes me want to cry!

My wife's Honda Odyssey updates with DST. It even updates time based on GPS position. But it wasn't too far off the price of my E92 335i either, for a minivan.

But it has never been to the dealer for any issues either.

Also some other countries do not observe DST, e.g. Asia countries...and DOE changed the DST from the last weekend in October to the first weekend in November in their energy policy act back in 2005. If there are any more changes in the future, are you willing to send in your car to dealership to have it "patched" or "reprogrammed"?

its much easier to just change one hour ahead or back twice a year. its not too complicated using the signal stalk...even easier if you have idrive...

It's not difficult to program DST based on location data. Plenty of companies have done it. Instead of programming the car to bong everytime it turns 37 degrees, BMW should have programmed automatic DST change.

I guess the link should be a video and not a redirect to your owners manual.

Nevertheless, in 2010 DST is very easy to compute by location. Other manufacturers do this automatically, so to make an excuse on how easy it is to change the clock really doesn't make sense. Next people will say we don't need a climate control knob on a 50k car, fan settings of 1 2 3 4 MAX are acceptable too.

The clock should change automatically, or at least be accessible by voice command.

Doesn't seem like it.

stock/stalk

Inexcusable. It's like when I was on hold with a dealership the other day, and the recording was a woman talking about one of their vehicles; she was rattling off some features or whatnot, and she actually said something about the 306 (or w/e) H.P. engine. But she actually said the letters "H" and "P" like she was reading off of a brochure and had no idea what the number or acronym even meant. It just came off as a very unprofessional recording. I'm pretty sure that was the BMW dealership.

Then again, why should I even care? Why does menial shit like that make me cringe?

I was hoping not to make this a DST thread... My car's time matches my bluetooth paired phone time (down to the second), which makes me think the car is picking up the time from the phone, but was going to wait until this weekend to see what happens.

This is why you take down the sign, haul it in to the office of the facility manager and MAKE them read the sign till they get it...

Are you guys really that lazy to change the clock? Yes it would have been nice if it was automatic but then again there's something else to go wrong....

Suck it up and click the stalk a few times....twice per year.

If you followed the link and selected your model and year you would have been brought to a page where you could navigate Owner's Videos... one of which is titled "Settings" which has a hover description calling out Time, and..... how to set it. lol

YOU sir, FAIL.

... and you think people who can't figure out how to set the time in the first place, are going to go through all that navigation to get to the promised video?

BMW needs to do a better job of treating me like the idiot I apparently am

Reminds me of an automated recording at a rather well known company that my friends and I heard the other day. The woman's voice instructed callers that they may call the phone number "twenty-four BY seven."

And yea, stock is not stalk. Fail. Grammatical errors are the strongest indicator that people do not read, never made a habit of it, nor are likely to be able to write a reasonably well thought out paragraph.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed the volume increase in spam emails BMW is sending out? I got this email from BMW NA 3 times this week, urging me to come test drive M cars. No thanks bros. And my dealership is spamming me with customer appreciation events. Who actually goes to these things?
