335ix Coupe + Blizzak LM60 + Snowstorm = Smiling Driver

Bought some Rial 18" Wheels and LM60 Blizzak RFT tires last month getting ready for winter.

BIG snow storm blows into Minneapolis last night.

Get up around 5AM and swap wheels before hitting the gym.

By 6AM we have a good 5-6 inches of snow. Cars already spinning off roads. Take it easy on my 5 mile drive to get a feel for the performance.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC - very high levels of traction on acceleration and ABS pulsing on very hard braking. Very impressed.

By 10A we have 10+" of snow and it is coming down hard - almost white out. Decide to try it some more. Lots of cars FWD and AWD (no snows) have trouble and getting stuck or sliding off road. 335ix only occasionally breaks traction for a bit under very firm acceleration. Firm shifts with 6MT no problem - car hooks and accelerates.

My car was clearly one of the best equipped and handling on the road today. Passed a stuck Audi as well

Damn glad I bought the xDrive.

Your car's color looks great in snow. Out of place in the summer but amazing with frost everywhere

Awesome. Glad you're having fun with it. My little e30 iX is quite the trooper in snow, absolutely love it. Different animal, but similar. Anyway. Have fun out there and watch out for other people.

Lm60 is a good tire. I remember flying on my m3 with dunlops ds2 tires, probably had more traction then on my a4 with performance winter tires.

Nothing like a set of snow tires and AWD in a snow storm. Best fun is to find yourself a large unused parking lot and stage your own rally! Four wheel snow drifting for the win.

Yea...most modern AWD cars with decent (new) winter tires will handle/perform the same in snowy conditions. Doesn't matter if its 4Matic, XDrive, Quattro...for street-legal commuting to work in a snowstorm...they're all the same. Rally racing is different no doubt!

AKA. they all become snow plows!!! In the winter, esp snowstorms...AWD is amazing...can have some fun in an empty parking lot too!

Attack a scoop at the front to clear your driveway with the Beamer.

Fuck yea! Put my snowies on last night on my RWD 330i before the Minneapolis snowstorm. Loving passing SUV's on the highway going 60mph in full control as they stare perplexed at me while struggling to maintain a silppery 40mph.

Blizzaks FTW!

I really like those rims! Very OEM-like. They fit your car perfectly.

Thanks good advice. It seems like only accident I am going have in the winter is SOMEONE else out of control.

I was impressed at how well my 328xi did with the Continental all-season RFT, but last winter replaced them with Dunlop Winter Sports NON-RFT. I agree, x + snows = practically unstoppable. It's almost dangerous the amount of confidence it instills.

I stayed with 17s though, but that's what I started with for factory rims.

My favorite move is heading into a snowy curve, kicking out the tail with a little power, and then having the fronts grab to pull you through the turn.

Snows

Can't wait for the first snowfall. Just bought new set of Dunlop 3D's and and used set of OEM rims. OEM's came w/a set of Conti runflats almost new for spring.

You guys are already getting nailed with that much snow? Ugh, glad I have this to look forward to in a month or so. When's summer?

Ha, you say that now but wait till the end of January and we'll all be begging for the snow to end.

But you're right, that first snowfall of the year just feels great.
