Engine Fail, Reducing Power? WT? HELP!

Hi all,

I tried starting my car this morning, somehow, the whole car was shaking badly, and the message Engine Fail, Reducing Power popped up in the idrive. The rpm kept jumping between 500 - 1000 by itself. However, after a 2,3 attempts of restarting the car, it started working properly again (it only returned to normal when i pulled the key out and put it in and start it again. The problem was still there if I just turned off the engine and start it again without removing the key). Whats the potential problem here?

My 335I has been having rough cold starts every morning, but it seems to be getting worse. It takes about 5 seconds to start the car or more sometimes. Does it have anything to do with that?

Also, my car always makes a particular noise while moving. Its like, ziiiiiiiiiiip. I am sure its not the brake because I am not braking. However, I tried to spot the source of the noise, but I just cant figure out when will that occur because I can always hear the noise randomly no matter if I am stepping on the gas or not, I can hear the noise at any gear (mostly 2-4th gear cus if i go too fast i dont think i can hear it). So does anyone know what causes that??

P.S. Info of my car: E92 335I 2007, auto.

Thank you!

It's the HPFP.

You'd think that with the problem being so renown in our cars, and the symptoms clearly stated all over this forum, that people would know what's going on when it finally happens to them.

Honestly, I thought to so too when I had almost the exact same symptoms a few weeks back. Turned the car in to the dealership....and they ended up replacing my secondary injectors.

Yup. Bad injectors.

The car purrs like a kitten now.
