Battery question!
Hello. I need to change my battery, dealer said is not something I can do my self because it needsto be register to the car and that when the old battery is removed a bunch of sensor will reset so it gas to be done by a pro. They want 250 for oem one plus 1h labor which is 150 plus taxes. That sounds like a lot to me and don't know if they r BSing me.
I call a local shop which is where a get most of my staff done and they said to go after market because the warranty on the battery is 2 years comparing to the 12 month of the OEM. The they charge me 1h labor which is 90$ plus taxes. Then I call my friends mechanic and he also said go aftermarket battery cus is cheaper and better warranty but he's only changing me 15$ because he said is only a 10-15 min thing. So I don't know who to believe now.

Oh God this topic is like Which is better, manual or auto? There has been numerous discussions about this. As for me, I replaced mine with a Walmart battery and 1/2 hour work. Works perfectly, no warnings no issues. I have been to the dealer since installing this battery and no codes were ever found. Dealer quoted me 450. Don't waste your hard earn doe.

You can Wallmart the Battery but do yourself a favor and buy a BT cable.
You use that to register the new battery. The system uses different charge rates based on the age of the battery. Thats why they tell the system it is a new one. as for the sensors going off: That is complete horseshit. I take my battery cable off all the time to do wiring things and add/remove tune for service etc... never a battery code thrown yet. I'm still at a loss why the system really needs to know about the battery age. I would think it could tell from the charge rate vs current voltage and temp to simply figure out how to charge it. |

Changing out the battery is easy. But when the power goed down, even for a second or two, all of the presets will erase - radio, seats, mirrors, even the ECU.
You can buy a tool to temporarily keep the power to the computer for $15-20. Any mechanic has a professioal version ($100+). If you pay a shop to do the change it is thier responsibility to fix anything that resets because the power is lost. But it is a job any compentent mechanic can do in 20 minutes or less. |

It seems the BT cable services up to 2009 BMW models. I guess there is a few years lag in updating. |
