Lost a little bit of love for my 335i this weekend :(

Just a little bit of a rant...I got my 08 E90 a couple months ago and it's been running pretty decently up until this weekend. I go to school in Orlando and went to Jacksonville for the weekend to visit my family. On the way up friday the car starts driving awful and has really noticeable hesitations under acceleration and then my service engine soon light comes on. Get to moms house and go to leave again (to visit other relatives) saturday morning and the service light is still on and after a couple minutes of driving the engine malfunction light comes on and the car goes limp. SO here I am driving around all weekend in limp mode, the car has absolutely NO power, I couldn't even keep up with the cars in front of me accelerating from a green light. (VERY DANGEROUS AND VERY EMBARRASSING). I turned the car off then on but the malfunction kept coming back. I tried to take it to the dealer in jax but they were booked all weekend so I had to make the 2 hour drive back in limp mode. An e92 335i wanted to play on the way down but I couldn't . I love my car to death but this weekend was really awful and it made me question it's future (when buying I almost went with IS350 solely for reliability). Anyways, I'm back in orlando (after almost getting mowed down multiple times) and have an appointment tomorrow morning. I'm anxious to see whats up with it. I'm only 19 so I'm prepared for the "sorry we can't give you a loaner, you're not of age. Have fun being stranded for 3 days while we take forever to fix your car" speech. (which is ridiculous, if I can afford and handle a 335i that they won't give me a basic 328i but whatever)

HPFP Issue..

X 2 !!!

1st I had long starts...

Take to dealer, update new Software on ecu and lose my Dinan map until I can make it across state to a Dinan BMW Dealer.

Then this weekend same thing, I get on freeway, 1/2 check engine light and Service Engine Soon light, NO Power, barely could make it at Hwy speeds and up any hills..GRrrrrrrrr Also my fans are VERY LOUD now oddly...

Appt Monday to take it in...

Good luck!

I haven't been having long starts though...weird. I can't believe one fuel pump causes all this mess. I've noticed my fans being loud as well. I'm actually relieved if that's what it is because of the huge warranty on that part, but it did suck being stuck with it all weekend.

well he said he "might be able to work around me but he probably wouldn't get very far" and I was in a different city so I wasn't sure what to do. The dealer here said they'd give me a loaner for $35/day which i think is ridiculous that i'd have to pay and they don't even know my age yet lol.

According to BMW, that's "safe mode." It only seems dangerous.

Call up ABC! Time for a followup story.

I would have called corporate if they refused to take my car in and give me a loaner. That is a safety issue. No way you should have had to drive back home in limp mode.

If you take your car to Fields BMW in Orlando, they will only give you a loaner if you bought your car from them. That is their policy which is weird as now a days most car dealers gives you the car for covered services. Your age is not the reason for not getting the loaner.

When I bought my car I also bought from non BMW dealer which saves me over 3K compare to what Fields was charging.

Sorry to hear. Yes, Fields are a bunch of assholes. Lakeland and Orlando.
No matter where you bought it, they should give you a free loaner because its BMWs fault.

i'm at UCF, Fields sucks from what i've seen. They're better than all pro in Gainesville was when I lived there but not by much. But fields does give you free breakfast and lunch and the dealership is wayyy nicer.

yeah, they have hertz there they said I could rent through at 35$ a day, which I was going to pay because I have to get around butttt then they saw I was 19 and said no can do. They even had other non BMW rentals there and they wouldn't even give me one of those. I was pissed. And there's pretty much no escaping Fields, they're everywhere around here.

Which dealership in Jax? Tom Bush (Atlantic Blvd) or Tom Bush (Orange Park)... either way, I am appalled that they turned you away. -sad indeed. Glad you are okay. Also, I am having long cranks on my '11 e92, the recall does not include n55.

thats crazyness. Ive had only two experiences with BMW dealers. Braman in West Palm Beach, FL and BMW Nashville, TN. Braman wouldnt give me a BMW loaner because i was underage but they gave me a rental for free. BMW Nashville gives me a loaner but they only give out 328i.

But not getting a loaner or having to pay for a rental is insane considering how much you pay for the car the service you'd expect from a company like BMW. I think BMW needs to create some sort of policy that works across the board for all their dealers.
