Best Floor Jack
I've got an old cheap Companion floor jack that works reasonably well, but I'd like to get one thats a bit nicer. I'd like one that lifts higher, and is also lower, as mine just barely fits under the car. Its going to sit in my garage all the time, so it doesn't need to be aluminum, and I'd like one that will last.
Does anyone have any suggestions? |

I have an old Larin rated at 2 tons. It's not much but it gets the job done. I just put the car on wood blocks to get the jack underneath it. I'd love a nice low profile long handle jack but my garage only allows for a small jack because its a 1 car garage.
I also noticed a lot of people on these forums don't seem to like to jack their cars from the middle points (Front cross member in between front wheels & Rear Diff) I primarily use those points and rest my jack stands on the plastic points. |

Hrm, That Griots one does look pretty nice, I have a fairly small garage though, and I wonder if I would have difficulties using it as it looks quite large.
I don't want to buy a jack at HF, I know you're not supposed to get under a car thats soley supported by a jack, but I do from time to time, and don't trust any HF ones. Plus HF is known for cheap crap, $180 is not cheap, but its probably still crap, so whats the point? |

We use the HF one all the time at the track on our Chumpcar. Works well enough for us but you are right not safe to get under without stands but no time at the track to do that.

gotcha I dk how much bigger the Griot's is versus the HF ... I have used HF stuff without issue but never a jack
I know the ones at Sears all suck as my roomate and his brother have gone through numerous ones

Bought mine from costco. Heavy as heck but it's pretty darn good. I always put jackstands in addition to the jack when I get under my car...
