PS3 vs. Xbox 360

So I am not a huge gamer, but have been tempted lately to buy one of these two systems. I am having a little trouble deciding though. Would appreciate some input.

My main attraction to the playstation 3 is that it will have (eventually) Gran Turismo 5. Other than that I'd probably pick up F1 and black ops for now. It is also nice that the PS3 doubles as a BR player, though my HTPC already does BR as well. I'm not really sure how the online gameplay is with the PS3, but I assume not as good as xbox still. Only other benefit of the xbox is then that my friends all have xbox as well.

I have both and the Xbox is very good online and some multiplatform titles work better on the Xbox even though the PS3 has better hardware. Overall, the PS3 is still a bit better on the features side and it costs only $100 more with free multiplayer.

P.S: GT5 is only 7 days away.

if you plan on playing online a lot, get the 360 - if you only plan on playing casually, on your own time, get the ps3. xbox live is like $60/year now and it won't really be worth it if you hardly play online

on the other hand, the 360 has a lot of awesome features; it can be pretty much your main entertainment center. if you have netflix, you can stream hd movies and shows to your 360 and the new update is awesome. you can link your last.fm, stream all your pc's media flawlessly, watch espn and news highlights, use twitter, facebook, and video chat. the arcade is AWESOME and the overall online experience is much more polished. the party system is great and well thought-out, not to mention the 360 controller is far superior to the ps3's in my opinion. also, i don't really think the ps3 has an exclusive title that the 360 either doesn't compete with or beat all-together

PS3 = Blu-ray, exclusive games, free online, wifi, etc.

I'm very happy with my 250gb slim.

it really depends on they type of user, if you play games online, the 360 is the best choice. I myself dont care for online gaming and the little I do, the PS3 does well enough

I just got an Xbox 4GB Slim with Kinect for $300 w/ free shipping and no tax for the living room. Plus, $40 Amazon game credit. The new 360 slim comes with Wifi built in. You should look into it on Amazon, great deal.

I appreciate all the input.

The more I think about it, the more the online game play seems to be a big deal. That clearly favors the xbox. Now GT5 is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on the xbox. Any idea when or if the new Forza game will be out? I have typically preferred the GT games, but I doubt it would be difficult to get used to Forza instead.

Blue2fire - do you think the 4gb will be sufficient hd space? I am pretty clueless on how much memory saving games requires.

If you dont install the game data on the HD, yes. Some games like Forza 3 come with 2 DVD's, one for the extra tracks and cars and one for play. This is strictly for light gaming and i would like to try out the Kinect.

If you like, you can plug in a flash drive and use it as a HD.

Well, I can't really disagree with your own opinion, but let's see if GT5 meets expectations. If so, GT will be THE title that PS3 has that XBox won't once again. I know for myself and some others, this was the deciding factor in previous console buying decisions.

However, I do think (since they took care of the reliability thing) that the 360 is probably the better platform overall for gaming, especially online.

OP,

I have both consules and this is what I think......

PS3
I have PS3 mainly for watching Blueray movies, I never use it to play games cuz their joystick sucks! The only games I have for PS3 are ones that does not use the joystick....ie DJ Hero - use turntables, StreetFighter - use a arcade style joystick. If you're a true gamer...joystick is important. Another thing for the PS3 is that it has better 3D if you're into that.

now Xbox....this is a real Gaming consule. Online gaming and the joystick is what this things is all about. Some downside to the Xbox is their Red Ring of Death plus you have to pay for the online which you can get for $30 a year (there are sales all the time, so don't go out paying $60 for it).

I've owned and played both extensively. I sold my xbox and still have the ps3. It feels more like a system for an adult.

The reasons I still own and play it:
Blu-ray, free online gaming, prefer the joystick, GT5, Uncharted 2, awesome user interface, works very well as a media center, netflix in HD with no disc, lower system noise (the xbox was loud as hell), system quality (xbox failed on me twice).

I too have both. Been an xbox mainstay since the original xbox. I got xbox360 right after it came out and loved it. Never owned a PS2 but did play friends and preferred both xbox systems over it.

I got my PS3 around last xmas with all the buy a tv get a ps3 free deals were going on. I've played the xbox once since (when halo: reach came out) 1. Halo Reach sucked IMO and the overall gaming felt like garbage to the PS3. 2.The only reason I haven't sold my xbox360 is because Gears of War 3 will be coming out eventually and I must have that game. Plus I'm hoping the xbox takes a crap so I have a reason to get a new slim version.

Its preference really. Both systems do the same thing practically. The difference between the two is that you dont have to pay to play online on the PS3 and it plays blu-rays whereas the Xbox 360 doesnt.

I've spent many hours on a 360 since all of my good friends have one. It's a pretty good system with great online play like others have said, but yeah paying for Live sucks.... also everyone I know with a 360 (except for one) has had the red ring of death at one point, one of them's been through 6 of them. My PS3's running strong after 2-ish years

I have no regrets in getting a PS3.

If you can afford a 3 series these should all be pocket change investments. It's all down to preference.

I really think you get what you pay for when it comes to the PS3's online experience. It's been shit whenever my friend offers me to play a game. I personally don't care for any of the games the PS3 offers except for GT5, so I'm eventually gonna buy one for Blu-Ray and that game alone. The rest of the exclusives are useless to me, and I hate the controller.

The 360's red rings are a bitch, too. I've had it happen twice.

I personally love XBOX 360 =) but if you plan on playing XBOX live, expect a lot of little kids on there. I have both, I think you should get both as well, the PS3 for your living room and the XBOX for your room =)

Got a PS3 a few weeks ago and love it. Shop around and you can get some good deals. The blu ray player makes it, especially if you have a good tv. The one downside is the online play, it is not as nice as xboxlive but it is free.
