got a second car

had a 2010 lifted 4 door wrangler for my DD, traded it in for a 2010 evo X MR. not as fast as I thought, but still a fun car to drive every day and take up to the mountains. I know zip about modding these cars. What to do??? gotta take off that silly wing first

I did some research on Evo Xs before I bought my M3. I've always been a big fan of the Lancer Evolutions (would love a used Evo 3 or 4).

From what I've read, the MR twin clutch system is limited on the amount of torque it can take. It's been a long time since I've read anything on the Evo forums but I don't know if there are upgrades for the TCCT (I think that's what the acronym is) yet. I think alot of MR owners just go with an ECU tune.

I am by no means an expert...just read up a bit on the Evos. I too would get rid of the massive wing.

Yeah I just plan on a tune and a very mild exhaust. Like I said its my DD. Going to throw a rack up top for the snowboards and call it a day.

I am an evo viii owner. My brother has the X gsr and my cousin has the X MR. I've been in the evo scene since it first got released here. Sad to say , I wasn't getting any love from the cops so I went and got the M.
Basically if you live in SoCal, hit roadrace engineering. They're based in Santa Fe springs. Basic mods like intake, exhaust, tune, upgraded intercooler and pipings will net you 340 to 350 whp. And it will be very reliable. Anything over those mods I believe will toast your twin clutch.

Oh btw, don't get rid of the wing. It completes the evo look IMHO.

the wing makes me feel 19. I am excited to play with it in the snow. Only concern is my two german sheps guess the jeep beat it in that category.

You need to look for the new Top Gear show episode with Tanner Foust in an Evo snow run. That will get you thinking...

I have never owned an EVO, but I've thought about since the VIII.

YAY!

if you're not gonna upgrade the turbo, no need for an intake, just a filter is fine. i recommend the cosworth dry filter as oiled units like k&n have been known to mess up the maf. also stay away from HKS as their filter is very high flow but doesnt filter very well.

the stock tune sucks, so a custom tune is a must and is the single BEST mod you can do.

catback exhaust doesnt net very much power gain, you need to go turbo back as most of the restriction is in the O2 housing/downpipe and cat.

as for the wing, if you take it off, you will have to fill up and paint 3 holes on each side. most people try to do a trunk swap but its probably hard to find someone.

lastly if you're scared to lose your warranty, dont mod anything. any warranty claim over $500 needs a regional mitsu rep to inspect the car to clear it.
