Insurance & Mods - talk about taking the P
Been looking at insurance quotes (using various price comparison websites) for the 330d M-Sport and can't quite believe the impact of some simple mods:-
42 years old, 9 years NCB, car garaged at night. 18k miles a year with 5k business use Standard Car Best Price circ £650, £500 xs Lip Spoiler and Exhaust circa £995 best price with £750 total xs Lip spoiler, Exhaust and remap £1200 with £750 total xs I can't quite believe that having a remap, spoiler and exhaust would almost double the insurance!! Adrian Flux can't even get close to the figures. Those prices are with my wife ON the policy (even though she won't drive the car as it's an auto). If i take her off the prices raise by another £200 - £300!!!! Any suggestions? (apart from don't mod the car!) |

I have a lot of mods on the 335i, am also 42 with the wife on the policy.
We have business use for me but live in TA6 and I have two fault claims and SP30. Admiral were about £700 pre mods list, with JB3, Exhaust and suspension etc it was an extra £150 or so IIRC. Online quote on a modified car is pointless - ring in person and work through the list

When you say "business use" Aviva don't seem to penalise normal to/fro places of work and visiting the odd few clients. They regard such as Taxi Driving or acting as a Courier as business use.
What type of business are you undertaking? Maybe that's why your quote is high? Also, for my last renewal, my Insurer, Esure quoted £570, the cheapest on Go Compare was c£410. An on-line quotation from Aviva got mine down to c£350 - so I went with them. |

Rich, you should be using the social, domestic, and commute to work policy. Some insurance companies also include driving in connection with your business which would include visiting clients and site but not carriage of goods and the like.
You may have specified a level of cover you don't require and that may represent a chunk of change. |

That's what I meant.
Also, the comparison websites seem to ask for claims and convictions for the last 5 years. Aviva were 4 years and that deducted some points for me - hence the cheaper quote. Strangely, I did my first online quotation with Aviva c1 month prior to the renewal date, however, when I logged in again a few days before the actual date to take up the policy, the payment reduced by £20. |

Hi,
I've just paid £509 with a £300 excess. Spoiler and different wheels, but I no nothing about a remap, so neither do they. I had a total loss in the 2007 floods which hasn't exactly been good for my premiums. Did it through Clarke Roxburgh. Maybe it will help |

Try Chris Knott insurance.
I used to use Aplan all the time but this years renewal for no reason went up from £500 to £1400!! Chris Knott got it back down to a sensible amount on my 335d and they are mod friendly. They also beat my best quote from Admiral. If you do use Admiral use it via Quidco as they have an extra £30 off plus 3% cashback |
