I found this video of a BMW M5 doing almost 200 mph on ocean blvd in Long Island, New York. He hit 197 to be exact. I would never recommend doing something as stupid as this but I must say that I am impressed with the vehicle. Anyway, here is the video.

The driver says he woke up early to do this so I'm guessing no one was around. When my friends and I drive spiritedly there's a good strech of road that usually no ones on and a great view of the road ahead so no suprizes.

There are flat, straight, open stretches of road that long on Long Island? At 2-3 miles per minute and a nearly 3 minute video, that's a good 7 mile stretch of road.

EDIT: After a quick Google search, I see Ocean Pkwy is a long ass road. Looks like it could be fairly deserted at certain hours.

Just FYI thats Ocean Parkway, not Ocean Blvd.

Its on a barrier island that contains jones beach. Its about 20 miles of flat and straight and it looks like he started from the water tower roundabout which is in the middle of jones beach.

The road itself is basically deserted most of the time other than summer days with beach traffic.

But yeah that area has been used for top end runs and street races since the 60s. Its only patrolled by two cops and most of the time theyre in the same place talking to each other. haha.

I wonder if he would even try to pursue them? Going a whole lot faster then his Charger/Crown Vic/Impala can go and the driver could exit the street and be long gone by the time they get a bird over the road.

There are only three ways on and off ocean parkway. And he started with two already behind him. He has about 15 miles. Util the next exit which t ak es. Youto a very long causeway. There is ^no escape

Its 2 lanes in each direction, very very very very low traffic volume, as BrokenVert stated

If you think that's balls, you should have been there when a M5board GTG of approxiately 15+ M5s was running similar speeds on that stretch

The front running M5s was kicking up so much sand that the rear running
M5s were getting sand blasted, let's say we saw a lot of M5s with pit marks on their hoods and windshields

I was at a bimmerforums rally and all of the M3 and 335 guys were hitting 130-140 like t was nothing

Although the video may look interesting, there is still a possibility something may go terribly wrong, and the rest may be history. IMO, i still think racing on an uncontrolled road still possess some degree of danger.

Every spend any time on the autobahn? There are still unlimited stretches that you can hit those speeds. I've set cruise control at 120mph and was still getting passed!

It's different when guys are going 140 on a road with a speed limit of 35.

The cruise control in my car won't activate after 130 mph...ask me how I know that

The thing that strikes me as stupid about this is the driver did not know where he was going. The passenger is giving him directions during the whole video. That is just dumb period at those speeds.
