Disengaging Clutch Pedal Rubbing All Weather Floor Mat

Took delivery of my new 3 last night - Awesome car! Will post pics soon.

Problem is, everytime I disengage the clutch, the bottom of the clutch pedal rubs against the all weather floor mat - which actually drags the mat up a little every time I shift! The mats are for the e90, and they are the proper size for the footwell, but this is quite annoying! Anyone have a fix? Thanks.

Hey. Congrats on the new ride. I had the same problem in my 335is after a car wash. Just make sure the mats (OEM and all weather) are pushed far enough forward; the pedal is prob catching in the cut-out. The first time this happened to me, I thought it was mechanincal!

I had the same problem, was killin me. I ended up adding some 3M velcro tape behind the all weather matt and that resolved the problem for me.

Edit- You can also do a little bit of cutting where its rubbing. But I opted against it, wouldn't be as clean.

the mats should have come with anchors that you screw into the floor - and they hook to the holes in the mats.

i have yet to install them, so i always pull back the mat towards the back of the seat before I drive off.

They do have anchors, but BMW decided to only put 2 towards the back part of the matt near the seat. The rest is pretty much loose and always moves a little forward when you move your feet around on the mat. Enough to clip the clutch when fully depressed. Very annoying! Velcro tape fixes this!

No problem here. Are you sure your anchors are installed in the correct location?

IF the anchors are installed correctly then the mats cannot move.

If the mats move then the anchors are either missing or installed wrong.

Hey guys thanks for your replies. The mat is anchored, and is not moving. The clutch pedal just catches on part of the mat when disengaging. Cut may work, but I am thinking Velcro will be cleaner. Quick application to the back part of the mat, right? I will give it a shot

Remove the mat. Remove the anchors. Place the mat down and make sure its properly lined up as far back/forward as possible. Press the clutch and see if it still happens. If it doesn't, make new holes and rethread the anchors.

The anchors are installed by the dealership and just screw into the carpet. Most dealerships don't bother fitting the mat properly before installing the anchors, so while it may not move it might not be in the right place.

Would placing the mat in a different position solve the issue? If so, then here is the proper way of installing the anchors.

Remove mat and unscrew anchors (they just unscrew)

Place mat in the proper position.
Place two stick pins (toothpicks will work in a pinch) into the carpet through the holes in the mat.
Carefully remove the mat leaving the stickpins in place
Screw the anchors in place of the stickpins and install the mats.

It wouldn't make sense for BMW (or WeatherTech) to make a mat that interfered with the operation of the clutch pedal.

I'm always amazed at how dealers prep new cars. My mats came without anchors and, after I asked and was told they didn't come with anchors, the parts guy dug around in a "spare parts bin" and found a ton. Apparently, the prep guys just threw the anchors into the spares box.

Sounds like your holes in the floor are set too far forward.

In the E46, the holes in the floor were preset, so you can swap between the All Weather anchors and the Carpet Velcro pads. No problems with this.

In the E90, the anchors are screw down, which means you (or the dealership) chooses the location to screw down. It's not a fixed location from the factory.

Look at the base of the accelerator pedal. How does the AW mat fit around it? When my clutch gets stuck, it's because the AW mat is pushed too far towards the front of the car - it's obvious because the mat sits above the base of the accelerator. I unintentionally push it forward when I get into the car. I pull the mat back towards the seat, and no issues.

Best thing to do like others suggested - place the mat in the proper location, and mark in the floor where the anchors should go.

What makes it even worse is that the winter mats (the rubber ones) use the hooks while the summer carpeted mats use little velcro disks in a different location. While the velcro disks can stay in year round, the hooks need to be removed to install the summer mats.

The mats were obviously designed by a non functional work group. My Audi used snap on posts that were the same for summer and winter mats.

Yea, Audis snap-in solution for mats is much better. I will have to look at it again. The mat does not seem to be over the accelerator. Seems to be sitting in the right place. But obviously not. Sounds like the mat needs to be repositioned further back to avoid striking the clutch pedal. I could do this. But the fact it's a new car on delivery makes me want to go back to the dealer to have them do it right! Like it should have been done the first time! OK // Rant. Thanks for your help guys

Does anyone have the part number handy for these all-weather mats? These sound like a necessary addition to my 325xiT. Thanks!

I am sure this isn't the case...

But is the all weather mat on top of the carpeted accessory floor mat. This would cause this to happen.

Go to WeatherTech.com and look up your car. WeatherTech makes them for BMW and they come with the anchors. The only difference is that the WT mats don't say BMW.

Was the mat (and the anchors) in the wrong place?

^ Yes, the mat was too far forward. I moved the anchors back about a half inch. Now the pedal does not interfere with the mat

This just shows that some of our "mods" (in this case velcro to hold the mat down) are just an incorrect way to fix something that the dealer screwed up.

If something doesn't seem designed properly by a major manufacturer then there is a good chance that it is just installed wrong.
