Going to the dealer for service (question)
Hi. I have been a proud owner of a 2007 e90 328i since June 10'.
I am going to my dealer tomorrow to get the micro-filter replaced (my Nav told me that it needs replacing), plus, it looks like I need to do the state inspection test, which I think the dealer will do for me? My main question is: Is there anything else I SHOULD ask the dealer to do to my car? My warranty is going to run out on the 23rd of this month, so I would like whatever I can from them while it is still free and capable. I don't plan on extending the warranty because the 328i is pretty reliable. The brake pads arent due for another 3800miles, so a replacement would be out of the question. Are there any little "perks" I can tell them to do? When I accelerate, I do experience some lag between acceleration sometimes and sometimes I get this "clunky" shift feeling when the car is going through rpms. For example, going from 3000 to 2000rpms or 1000 to 2000rpms, etc. Thank you and I look forward to being a member of this great community of e90 owners |

You are asking a bit late but you should find an independent tech to give your car a close once-over to check for problems. expect to pay about an hour worth of labor for this but it could save you thousands.

Thanks Ceb. However, when I bought the car from an independent dealer (lot), it was located right next to the actual BMW dealership. So, the owner of the dealership where I bought my car went to BMW to get a diagnostic check-up.
The only thing that BMW said was that it needed a brake flush and new brakes. So, the owner of the lot did all that. He showed me the report of it too for proof. So, I was wondering if there are some certain "hidden" things or something nice that I should have the BMW service department do when I take my car in tomorrow. Appointment is at 5:45pm Pacific time. So, any further help would be appreciative guys! EDIT: They could be novice things as well like "getting tires aligned", fixing some mirror, etc, etc. Even if it is VERY SMALL of a change, I would welcome the opinion/thought. Thank you. |

I always have them change out the wiper blades when I go in.

Like ceb said, you should have a full inspection done by a independent shop (cost you $50 or so) and have them give you a list of things that are worn, broken or could be replaced.
Then take it to the dealer and have said things replaced under warranty. |

about the clunkyness going through the revs, i'm thinking what you refer to is the DISA valves opening? This happens at specific rpms, 3,200 and 4,500 i believe.

Go through the tsb's (sib?) in the service sticky and see if any of them apply to you. Some of them they may not act on without seeing the code but it's worth the 15 minutes to check.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Any peeling trim pieces?
You can reset the adaptive throttle by switching your car on ACC power then holding down the throttle for 30 seconds. To turn on ACC power, press the start button twice without your foot on the brake. That should solve your jerky shifts. |

Have them do a full inspect on the car and any warranty-able items should be replaced....any wear you see...have them replace.

Have them scan the vehicle history and make them replace anything that hasn't been done. Oil change (allowed once per year even if miles don't say it), wiper blades, filters, flush, etc... The car's computer will tell them everything about the history.
They can also reset the transmission for you.

If I knew it would happen 14 days out of warranty, I would have mentioned the battery seems to be weakening, although I was told by the SA after the fact BMW rarely will replace a battery under warranty, they claim it should last 5-6 years and would simply charge it.

You mignt be entitled to a free oil change
You might be entitled to a free oil change
If the oil hasn't been changed in a year regardless of the miles left on the service indicator. I would have them check for any of the common problems like broken head bolts if you have a 328 or 330. Check the oil level before and after you go in to be sure its not under filled before or after . Head bolt breakage is a known problem on the 328 and 330 I would be replacing the lifetime fluids at and Indy shop after going off warranty trans, diff, radiator , brake, power steering etc.. |

^ No -- not needed yet. Only once per year (I think it's once per 12 months) OR when the mileage is up. But I doubt it is unless the car was driven a lot.
