air filter

k&N washable engine air filter claims (i mean KN, not the filter itself lol) that it can add up to 6 horses just because of better air flow.

what is your opinion on this? they are about 60 bucks, no warranty issues and seems like a easy way to add 'couple' of horses.

think this is a valid claim? i mean, 6 horsepower is pretty decent gain...

I have the N55 engine, and I was wondering the same thing. Does the increase in airflow cause any problems for my engine?

i doubt it... i mean they are forced induction engines and better air flow can't be that much of a air like jb1 or vishnu type mods... its just a 'bit' more air than with a regular paper filter...

but that is something to think about.

I don't know anything definetly, but i'm pretty sure the turbo's are limited once they spin up on how much air they're pushing in, so easier airflow won't help much, maybe low end torque (before the turbo spools up)?
You probably won't see hp gains since at the top of the rev range where the turbo is limited by the ecu and easier airflow won't matter.
Someone with more knowledge should chip in.

I would think the filter would help out a bit more with a tune.

Question

Is it true that the K&N really does very little by way of performance gains?

I hate that company. U get no gains from their stupid filters. I heard more MAF sensor problems due to dirt and oil.
