I have yet to meet a bmw salesman that new more than I did about bmws.
Its shocking how little some know. I even got in an argument with a tech about the ecu I had (81 vs 80) in my 08 when I was trying to get a dinan flash in late 08 when they changed ecus. The conversation included the comment "Son, we know more about your car than you do or the internet, let us do our job" I told him to give me my keys I was done dealing with his shop, drove directly home and dug into my ecu box (on my 2500 miles new car) to provide I was right. Called him to let him know he was wrong and that no, I didnt want to schedule an appt to bring my car back in for the flash.

Totally relate to that when i got my car... those salesman are there to make money and most of them have no interest or passion in their jobs either.
The reason they can be BMW salesman is because of their cheeky smile, persuasive manner, decent appearance, and most of the time over 30 (preferably with gray hair to show experience in the field).

i don't understand why you felt the need to go through all that just to prove him wrong. Every car I've bought, I knew more than the sales guy did but I've never corrected them about anything just overlooked it.

B to see how hard it was cause other options required a trip into the ecu C to have a legit reason when asked, have you been into your ecu if it ever came up at a dealership D to prove that condescending prick wrong.

wow, never been attacked on the forums like this. Fun.
Sorry, I like modding my car, I like doing a lot of it myself, makes it feel more like my car. Its a very simple process that takes 10-12 mins to open up and close with practice. I just did it.

Given your poor grammatical skills, I'd be careful who you address as an idiot. Clearly, you are at risk of falling into that category as well. Cheers.

lol j/k Yeah I bitched a bit about HPFP at the booth at the L.A. Auto Show and they just told me that was only still an issue on the newer models What can you say.. We probably know considerably more about the platform from reading and being a part of the community here than they ever will. |

The guy was probably selling Ford Mustang, went on to some different career, then a few weeks before he found this new gig with BMW. The turnover rate at the dealers are so quick most salespersons are not even more knowledgeable than a buyer who just read the Consumer Report.

Anyways.
There are a lot of sales people who are just car fucks and don't bother to learn nor do they care to learn the ins and outs, there's a seat for every ass and if it's not yours it will be the next one. They will talk the car up so you get emotional and won't leave without it. There are some sales people who have a genuine interest in the product or cars, and will offer a wealth of knowledge and personal experience from owning them. Personally I think the sales person should know what the hell they are selling, but perhaps car savvy people aren't so great at schmoozing you into buying a car. Either way, it happens, end thread!

Ya I agree with you that some salesmen know a lot, however I dont see why the post should be closed because some people are really gullible and will believe anything people tell them so they need to realise that they should do their own research and not listen to anyone else.

I would love to have an SA or salesman that I knew read these forums often. I think its a great site to know what certain (limited) buyers find important. The guy I bought my last two bmw from knows me well. Just hands me the keys to whatever I want to test drive (always a 3 series) and never tries to sell me, give me a run down of the car features or even come on test drives with me. He's knows I am a huge car/bwm fan and done my research.
