Things to do in Dallas? (superbowl wknd)
I've never been to TX before and I'm headed to Dallas for the game with a buddy. We're 26 and 27 year old single dudes. What kinds of things should we look to do there? How is the night life? We'll probably go to all the CBS stuff since it'll be easy, but what about during the day?

Man, there will be stuff going on that entire week somewhere. It really depends on what you want to do or see. As far as the nightlife, Deep Ellum is where everyone usually goes so thats your best bet. This is most likely where celebs/athletes will be found during that week as well.

Call on Blake if he's around (which is pretty darn possible since we are talking about Super Bowl ) ....He loves to party with all fellow Bimmerpost members.

Ok cool, I'll check that out for sure. I'm sure the whole vibe of the city will be a bit different during that weekend but how are things "done" in Dallas? In LA since we all live here it's very easy for us to navigate the nightlife scene from knowing people and whatnot but in TX we are outsiders. In Dallas do you pretty much have to buy tables to get into the better spots? I don't know yet anyone else who we know that is going so it might be dumb to try and get into places like that if it's very expensive. Last year in Miami during the game weekend so many places tried to gouge the two of us for like $800 tables. For two of us. We're like WTF really? gtfo.
Also, I'm sure the hotel will be central in DT. Is it pretty easy to get around on foot or cab? |

Also hang around hotel lobbies and bars a lot (any hotels). It will be packed with "working girls" from all around the country.
They love drunk football fans. Within the trade, they affectionately call them the, "5 minute wonders" |

what hotel? downtown, except for a couple blocks on main street, is pretty f'ing dead. it is almost impossible to get around on foot in dallas either. if you wind up in downtown, there is the DART light rail train that heads up 75 (major north/south highway out of downtown) and stops close to some of the good nightlife areas, but even still, it's usually a decent walk to those areas. i highly suggest finding a rental car if you can. parking is plentiful all over dallas, so that isn't the issue. dallas/ft. worth, and everywhere in between, is a sprawling area with poor public transport, and cabs are going to be absolutely swamped all weekend...hell, they get bogged down on ordinary friday and saturday nights. we aren't known for having great transport that isn't your own car...the area is just too big (9200 sq mi.) i'd be happy to answer any questions you might have, and like tondtar said, i have been known to have a cocktail or 12 with BP members before, including tondtar. |

also, the best trim in dallas will be in the uptown or henderson ave area. that's where i spend most of my time. mckinney ave, in the uptown area, is probably going to be a good bet if you end up in downtown dallas. the mckinney ave trolley has free trolley ride from ross and st. paul in downtown, if that's where you end up. it goes all the way up mckinney to the end of the 'meat' of mckinney ave. there aren't but a couple nightclubs on mckinney ave (and i don't think either of them are that good IMO), but it's practically the best sports bar tour of dallas (a good dozen plus), as well as some fantastic restaurants.. AND you can just hop on/hop off the trolley free whenever you want. it runs until midnight friday/saturday nights, 10 on sunday's, but not really sure if they'll change it for the super bowl (which i think would make sense).

deep ellum is close to downtown, but is a fucking dump. crime, homeless, and freakshows. i haven't been down there in years because of it. most locals don't. it's sorta a niche area for the punk crowd. it's just not a safe area with cool places, unless you like loud, punk rock clubs, or teens on ecstasy. addison is a town/suburb to the north. it's a good 15-20 minutes by car from downtown in no traffic. super bowl weekend, with no car, it'll be near a $40-50 cab ride. if you want to experience dallas, don't go to addison. like i previously mentioned, it's mostly chain bars and restuarants, they're all smoke-filled (addison is the only town in the dallas county area that still allows indoor smoking), usually 2-1 guy/girl ratio, and any good looking dallas woman will NOT be there. they'll all be in uptown/mckinney ave/henderson ave area. |

I see you are from LA so ....Avoid any "Tex Mex" food like your life depends on it. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed and feeling betrayed

As he said, downtown is usually dead, so this might be a good bet. Super Bowl weekend though, I'm sure all of the high end bars around downtown are going to be ridiculous. I cannot imagine what the cover @ Ghost Bar will be on Friday and Saturday night.

Yep, if you're downtown, stick to Uptown for night life. It will be stupid busy that weekend though. JerryWorld is a good 25 miles from downtown and I'm not sure what public transit will exist for it, a car would be nearly a must for that weekend.
I moved here from Laguna Beach and my sister still lives in Silverlake. Dallas is big and as much of a car town as LA. Traffic that weekend will make the 10 look like child's play. It's normally worse than LA and add all the Super Bowl chaos and it's going to be awful. |

yea but ghost bar is shitty anyway. and a main reason why i try to steer anyone away from downtown is because the two big clubs on main, dolce and mantus (which i'm pretty sure both have been renamed due to dallas' cyclical club scene), are usually packed with affliction $35k millionaire meatwads and spray tanned gold digging succubi. PM is downtown and that's just about the only club i would endorse, although it's pretty small and gets stuffy packed (not to mention their bottle prices are higher than bird pussy).

that's a good hotel, but near absolutely nothing but medieval times. it's close to downtown, but not walkable. the closest DART rail stop is a good 20 minute walk, but then you'll have to transfer trains or you'll wind up in the 'hood. i'm telling you...consider renting a car. you don't have to drink and drive, naturally, but getting to different restaurants or events will be tough with public transit/getting a cab under an hour wait. plus, you can always go places and leave your car if you get too sauced up. you'll find that most of dallas' nightlife is within walking distance of each other ONCE you get to the areas.
