Question Looking at possibility of buying a BMW 335i

I have always had American cars, so to look at something built somewhere else is a pretty big stretch for me. I have to admit, in the 80's, I hated the BMW. Now, with their current styling, I think they look amazing. I am looking at buying something as a daily driver as I take my 01 Z06 off the road and start really modifying it for drag racing and shows. I am a total newbie with BMW's. I really like the looks of the 335i Coupe, but it is a first year model. Those that own the 335i, what are your impressions so far? What modifications can be done to increase the HP? (Wife will love the fact that they can be modded...she wants me to get rid of my 86 Monte Carlo SS that I have been rebuilding if I get the BMW. She also thinks the BMW is safe from being modded out.) Any input you could give a BMW newbie would be great. I'm all ears! :rocks:

Search for information on the PROcede as the 1st modification. A 335i would be a great car for you from what you describe. Coming from a car with a ton of low end torque the 335i should make you very happy. Post some pics of the Z06.

I am not sure how well the 335i will stand a lot more power, if that is what you mean by saying that you want a car that will be modded....YES, it is a twin turbo and there is PROceed, and you can always get an exhaust, some better tires than the RFT, but I dont think you can fit bigger turbos...even if you could, you will lose the low end torque, and you may need to add a lot of extra $$$ cash to replace some engine internals....

Modding I was referring to was the PROceed and exhaust. From what I have been reading, those are the top two performance mods. Also looks like a couple things can be done to dress it up. I have been reading the threads for sometime now, and sometimes it helps to go ahead and post a "newbie" thread like this to see what some people may say about the car, in addition to the threads that are active. I welcome all input...thanks in advance!
As for pictures of my Z06, here you go...

If you would like to see more pictures (custom stereo pictures, additional motor shots, etc.), I have more posted here: http://www.motortopia.com/quikzilver/cars

Nice Corvette

Lots of mods possible, the 335i is great. Some coupe owners have some gripes about the robotic arm seatbelt helper, but overall the cars have been pretty solid.

PROcede, tires, exhaust, LSD... hang around here and you'll find all sorts of mods

the 335 just came out there is thr PROcede, you can get an exaust, little things. give the car a little more time on the market and there will be a plentyful of stuff available for it.

the car stock is an amazing machine in itself. handels great , cockpit is ver driver friendly, seats are very comfortable.

have yo driven one yet??

i suggest you take one for a test drive, and you will see what all the hype is about.

Nice Vette, and welcome aboard. Having had several American muscle cars, I can tell you that a BMW 3 Series is in a different class. It's a driver's car as opposed to a 'muscle' car or drag car. It makes both the daily commute and the spirited weekend back road a pleasure. The other thing you will notice is the fit and finish. The quality is superb.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

But you'll also still feel the love of torque in the 335. Having owned trucks and driven plenty of American muscle torque is such a feel. The only thing I missed when driving my friends '05 ZHP.

Bro....you are missing out on alot if you have driven nothin but american cars....you are in for a surprise. its almost like dating a virgin and later you sleep with someone thats actually experienced. I know american cars are generally cheaper but they are cheaper for a reason...look at the price of your Z06 and all comparing cars that are european or even japanese. You will love the 335i and you might even sell your corvette just because you will get it in and be like wow this is a piece of shit compared to my bmw. lol naw im jus kiddin but seriously man get a 335i you wont regret it! good luck man.

A 335 with PROcede, exhaust, LSD should be sufficient fun.

quikzilver,

if you've never driven a bmw before you're in for a treat. they have a very signature feel thanks to their 50/50 balancing over the front and rear axles. its a real visceral yet neutral feel. i think you'll find that as far as responsiveness goes, the 335i will outperform your corvette. and you'll love the drive. you'll finally discover why there is such an allegiance to german engineering.

the only complaints i have about the car is its lack of limited slip differential, which of course you'll find on next year's M3, and its comfort access option isn't 100% responsive (maybe this is just my car). i love the seatbelt feeder btw.

take the car for a test drive... then buy it.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to try to get over to a dealership this weekend to test drive one.
As for the stripes, they are styled after the 04 Indy Pace Car Stripes.
