M-Sport Steering Wheel Question... Gap with stock cover?
I'm considering getting the M steering wheel (not the one with the perforated leather, I'm referring to the one with the tri-color stitching for my e92 335 ZSP. I have a 6MT, and had a couple of questions regarding the wheel. I've read the DIY and a couple of threads regarding the wheel and it seems like a nice upgrade.
The only thing is, I'm not so sold on the idea of replacing the cover. I I've heard about the supposed "gap" that would be there if you were to keep the stock cover, but I feel that the pearlescent trim looks pretty good and I'd rather not have the M badge on the wheel if I can avoid it. Does anyone have pictures of this gap or can anyone give me an idea of how large the difference would be? |

I put on the Mtech steering wheel (non-stitch) with a stock cover (pearl) and there is indeed a gap between the cover and the wheel.
The gap is on the UNDERSIDE of the cover. So you will ONLY see it....if your head was below---by the pedals looking at the driver seat...you can feel it a bit by feeling underneath..(behind the pearl)...basically, the plastic extends slightly further out than the wheel. Otherwise...it is NOT even seen by you while driving...or by anyone else that is riding in your car. DO IT, DO IT, DO IT:rocks: EDIT: See here...from another member. You can't even see the gap. Its behind the cover!

Thanks for the immediate response!
Of course, if I can trouble you for even more information that'd be great: Would you be able to guess how big this gap is? Is it centimeters? An Inch? It's nice to know that it can't really be seen, but like many of us, I'm pretty OCD when it comes to my car. On another note, how do you like the wheel? |

The picture really puts it into perspective... Doesn't look like the gap will be an issue at all. I probably don't need to ask this, but I imagine that there is no difference between the e90 wheel and the e92 wheel?

Don't worry....its worth the upgrade to have a little bit of gap on the underside. No difference in the steering wheels or the cover. I have the 330i E90 with sport package. I put on the Mtech wheel (peforated) and the wheel cover from 335i E92 with sport package (pearl trim). Mine looks just like the pic above! You should have no problems!

Sorry...I don't have pics of my wheel...but, it looks exactly like the one I posted above. I let someone borrow my camera...and am still waiting to get it back.

That picture really does look great, it is making me second-guess whether or not I'd like the perforated wheel or the one with the tri-colored stitching. I just have my reservations as to which wheel would look better assuming I'm NOT changing anything else inside the car.

Ok...I found these. Comparing ZSP wheel to Mtech wheel....this one is the colored stitch one...but should be the same size as the non-stitched.
AND...here is a pic of the gap on the underside...see, hard to even notice it with the wheel off laying on a table.

All depends on your interior. I have black leather with alum trim. I also have alum pedals...so looks exactly like this....

Red leather...I can see the interest with the red in the stitch.
I probably would still get the regular...only because I loved the pearl cover that goes so well with the alum trim! I don't know how it will look with the stitching....if you get it, post pics so that we can see it!!! If you go regular mtech...think about either getting the alum pedals ($130 or so)...or the pearl hand brake ($40 or so, mine is coming in the mail soon!) to finalize the interior look!

You're right, I hadn't considered what the tri-color stitch would look like in conjunction with the pearl trim on the wheel.
Do you have any pictures of the pearlescent e-brake ? |

Monkey see, monkey do .. monkey wants that steering wheel too.
E92 AW with Coral Red/Aluminum interior on order for March production. Seriously interested in MTech wheel with tri-color stitching (not so interested in perforated version, just a matter of taste). So where do I get my hands on one?!? |

I think it's going to have to be the perforated wheel. Your pictures really convinced me. Thanks for all of your help, I'll post some pictures once I get it!
