BMW article w/ Supercharged + Turbo 325i track car?
http://www.carbon8mag.com/car/featur...5i-000341.html
Came across this and thought it was interesting. I guess the 325i can hold its own with boost Bavarian Bruisers 2002 BMW M3 & 2006 BMW E90 325I Sam Yang and Dennis Wang have more in common than just last names that rhyme. They also share an affinity for motor treats from a little region in southern Germany know as Bavaria. Home to all sorts of wonderful things like beer and pretzels and of course BMW (or Bayerische Motoren Werke auf Deutsch). Interestingly, both these cats bought their Bimmers brand new then proceeded to modify the hell out of them turning them into ruff neck bad boys scarier than Hanz und Franz in Laderhosen. "I bought my M3 in 2002 and used it as a daily driver just doing some basic bolt on's at first" said Sam. "But I really wanted to build a show car that would stand out and there aren't a lot of wide body M3's out there." Sam then met Ben at High End Performance and his dreams became reality. "Ben designed this custom one off wide body kit for me which was inspired by the E90 M3" Sam told me. But things weren't always rainbows and lollipops for Dennis and his ride. "A while back I was actually put in a tough place" he explained. "The car was undergoing some major work on the sound system when the owner of the shop had a stroke and died. The car was literally in pieces and I couldn't find anyone to take on the job of completing the build!" Finally Dennis found a shop called Mac Car which agreed to take on the project. "At that point I made a decision to go all out with the build." Similarly Sam, an International student from Taiwan studying business in southern California, finally saved enough money to buy his first car. And although his first consideration was a Mazda RX8, it was the safety features of the new E90 that clinched the deal for him. Ironic really considering this car now packs enough power to catapult him to the moon thanks to the help of the world's first custom made E90 twin charge system based off a separate super charger and turbo that run using 3 separate ECU's. That's not the best part though. "I'm actually planning on doing a motor swap in a month or so" Sam said. "I'm going to put an E39 M5 motor in". I guess it's a good thing he has that roll cage installed because with that kind of juice he might just need it. Remember it's safety first for Sam. Sam and Dennis met through a mutual friend and use every opportunity to hit the show circuit together representing just how cool BMW's can be. As a matter of fact, you can catch them both at HIN LA this month. And if you miss them there, keep an eye out for them at SEMA. They'll be the Asian dudes representing the motoring goodness of ze Fahzerland! 2006 BMW E90 325I Engine / Performance • Twincharge (1 X Supercharger and 1 X Turbocharger) • Garrett GT30 (Polish) • Isuzu Truck Supercharger (Polish) • K&N Filter 10" • Custom Aluminum Cover Power coated Wrinkle Black • Custom Valve Cover Power coated Wrinkle Black • Turbosmart Waste Gate Pro Gate 48 • 2X Turbosmart Blow Off • Pro-shot fogger system NOS • Custom Polish Headers • 2X NOS Tank 10 Pound • Custom Piggyback ECU From Split Second • Custom Inline Fual Pump For More Fual Pressure Exterior • Full AC Schnitzer Aero Kit • Custom Wide Body • Custom Triple Striped Paint • Custom Aluminum GT Wing • Vorsteiner Double Sided Carbon Fiber Hood • Genuine BMW E90 European Headlights • Genuine BMW E90 Smoked Tail Lights • Fusion Angel Eyes (6500K) • Fusion D1S HID (6000K) • Custom Carbon Fiber Side Mirrors • Custom Carbon Fiber Grilles • AutoTecknic Carbon Fiber B-Pillar • Fusion Carbon Fiber Door Sill Suspension • KW V3 Coilover • I-bach S-bar Wheels & Tires • HRE C20 - Charcoal/ Polished Lip - Front: 19X9 - Back: 19X11 • Falken Tire 452 - Front: 265/30/19 - Back: 315/25/19 Interior • Recaro SPG Bucket Seats - Custom Wrapped In Suade • Schroth Racing Harnesses • Fusion Titanium Carbon Fiber Interior Trim • Custom Suede • Camera Mount • Custom 14 Point Roll Cage • Fusion Carbon Fiber Paddle • VAC Custom Base Mount • MAC Car Hyper Red LED Interior Lights • Custom Mounted Defi Gauges on Roll Cage ICE • Apple Mini Mac Computer • Nintendo Wii • Helix Speakers • Custom Acrylic Subwoofer Enclosure • Custom 10" Trunk Monitor • Custom Flush Mount DVD Player Connected to OEM I-Drive • Custom Back Up Camera Connected to OEM I-Drive • 26" LCD Monitor

Wouldn't be needed. The inline setup doesn't increase boost anymore than the max rated efficiency of the supercharger (which is fed by the turbo). The idea behind the setup is to increase low end tq that centrifugal superchargers lack. Usually the turbo is sized smaller than normal to reduce lag, and the blower takes over up top.

I didn't even know this was possible! What are the pros and cons?
It would be awesome if you could get the instant boost from the supercharger and the torque from the turbo without having turbo lag as the supercharger will prevent that. |

I looked through the article.. came up with some conclusion...
1. He (they) are VERY rich. 2. The e90 is an auto. 3. I dont understand what was in his mind.. (Why he have both trunk lip spoiler and a GT wind together, why put a mac and a wii in the car..) 4. Whats the point of have a super charger and a turbo charger.. then add another 2 10lb NOS.. Nice car tho.

You saw Fast and Furious, right? Well apparently this guy did too, but no one told him it was a movie, not a documentary.

I'm amazed that the block can handle any level of boost. With that setup, I would imagine they're running at least 15-18 psi
