Thoughts on 328 w/ m-sport
If you saw a 328 E90 w/ m-sport on the street, would you laugh or think "there goes a fine automobile?"
I dont think anyone would argue that the straight-6 in the 328 isn't a great engine, or that the 328 on its own isn't a driver's car ... it's just rather modest compared to its big brother. I'm down to about 4,000 miles a year, while we log about 10 on my wife's car (family dynamics have changed ... a dog and a newborn just don't fit in a 4-seater). I don't need the power of a 335 during my 3-mile, 20-minute commute (translation: 9 mph avg), but I love the look of the m-sport. I'm thinking of buying a 2011 328 sedan equipped with it (and the 193 rims). I'm not one to do things based on what others think (i'm driving a 328 e92 now), I'm just curious about some varying viewpoints. I was close to buying a 2010 135 m-sport, but ultimately decided that I need the versatility of four-doors (again, 12-year old dog, car seat, etc). Cheers. Roc

I recently leased a 328 w/ the sport package off the lot. Had I ordered one, I probably would have sprung for the M-sport package. Don't see anything wrong with it other than, damn that car looks cool...

328i M sport is a great looking car. I would definitely compliment someone driving it say at the gas station. Plus to 95% of people out there you cant tell the difference between a 328 m sport and a 335 m sport anyways, same wheels same trim same bumpers. Oh wait. 1 more exhaust tip. WOW

so you wanted a 135 but decided no because of the two doors, why not a 335i sedan? Anyways 328i m-sport is a very nice car either way.

135 was a CPO for ~$33k ... i just cant justify spending 50 on a car i'll get to open up only a few times a year (i live in the city) after I just bought my wife a $50k car in November.

I had a regular sport package 328i sedan and I loved it - it's a great car, and the NA V6 is such a smooth motor. I have a 335i M-sport now, but that's only because the 328i got totalled.
I think the M-sport looks awesome.... just do it! |

328's are a fine auto but as it is,get it if you like it but it's a bit overkill. Why don't you just get a nice set of say 18' or 19' oem rims that would look really good, just a thought

If you like the look of the M-sport, go ahead and get it! Don't worry about what other people say/think. It is YOUR car, and ultimately you are the one paying for it and driving it everyday.

I'm with you. I've had my 328 coupe for three years now and have never felt insecure about having "only" 230 HP and 200 lb-ft of torque. Just home from work today, bored and curious about what others thought.

That's true on the sedan but not the coupe. The 18" 193M is standard with M-Sport on the 328i coupe, however that is changing as of March production.

Do it. I'm thinking about trading down as well. I think I don't need more than 180 horses; too much traffic shenanigans...

Ah - oops. I didn't catch that. Brain fart and selected the sedan by accident instead of the coupe, and didn't actually let the images load while I looked at the options. I already knew about the sedan, because of the neighbor who has a 328i e90 m-sport. Oh well, I stand corrected. In the coupe guess the only exterior visual difference is the tail pipes and badges whereas the sedan, unless you upgrade the wheels, it is the wheels and tail pipes and badges.

Why I Passed On M-Sport
In my view there are two camps who consider pro vs. cons of M-Sport, those buying a 328 and those buying an X-Drive.
If you're buying a 335i and can afford it, why not? It's a great looking package and all you give up, at most, is the Heated Steering Wheel. If you're buying a 328 and spending the extra cash for M-Sport, why not just step up to the 335? I agree that the 328 is a better fit for certain buyers, especially if you drive MT and the superior ZF transmission for the 335 is a non-issue. That said, add M-Sport and Xenon to a 328, you're getting close to a 335 in price. For X-Drive, the M-Sport is the same $3,750 as the i, except you don't get the sports suspension. The standard Sport package is only $1,350 for the 335 X-Drive w/ the 17" wheels, $1,950 w/18". So do I go M-Sport for the extra $2,500 or $1,800, or do I go Nav for $2,100? Or keep the cash? As much as I really dig the M Steering Wheel, I decided the Nav and Heated Steering Wheel was going to add more value than the M-Sport package. Especially now they going to intro the BMW Apps package with 6NR. The aero package and wheels are nice, but I'd rather keep the 17" for winters and perhaps buy a nice set of Beyren and non-RFT summers. That said, I use my car as a daily driver and for traveling to client locations for work. If it was a weekend/personal car, I might have skipped the Nav and gone in the other direction. Good luck whatever you choose.

My loaded $50k (leased for under $600/mo) 328 M-sport looks like an M3, is a joy to drive and has all the power ever needed in a daily driver.First thing I did was lose the badge - now only two visual differences!

Back in early Dec. I ordered and will pick up my 2011, 328i, 6MT, M Sport on 2/25. AW with Saddle and Black. Car is beautiful, I saw it the day it hit the dealer. Replacing my 2008 VW Jetta 2.0T, w/Auto stick. I drive about 30 miles a day on both highways and local roads. The Jetta has been a wonderful, totally reliable car but I'm not carzy about the front wheel drive (I'm 59 and grew up with RWD cars) and find it boring to drive. I couldn't give a crap about the difference in HP between the 328 and 335 as it will never be on a racetrack and it will provide more than enough power to accelerate safely onto an expressway (1 second difference in the 0-60 won't bother me a bit). I love shifting for myself, love the look of the Coupe (no difference 328 to 335) and really love the look of the M Sport front, rear and sides. Sports seats were a must and I prefer the M Steering wheel and shift knob to the base or Sport model and I especially like the M Sport wheels. To me it was a no brainer. Tried and true 6 cylinder engine, less money whats wrong with this picture, NOTHING. Buy/lease the car and enjoy it. Why waste your time thinking what others will think. Thats what I have my Porsche for. Oh I forgot It's a Base model not an S. Hmm, maybe I should sell it. What do you guys think? Should I get a Boxster or a Boxster S? What will people think of me if I'm driving a Base model? Get it... where does it end. It's your car nobody elses. Do what makes you feel good.

The M-Sport is a trim package, there is nothing wrong or poser about getting it. You get it because it looks cool. Doesn't matter that you're a 328i. Cool looks are cool looks, no one should think that you're pretending to be a M... now if you buy that and then put a ///M badge on the back of your car... now you're playing with fire...
If the M-Sport package were available as a factory option when I got my car, I would have strongly considered getting it. |

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 335i w/M-sport and considered a 328i with the same. I say go for it. Take it easy on the options and you'll save a lot of money. People in the UK and Europe buy the M-sport package on everything from four-cylinder diesels to 335i.

It's that simple. Your wife will applaud the extra room for the child. Your dog will applaud you for it tons of space to comfortably ride in. Your house will applaud you for all the extra stuff you can shove in your boot from home depot. Wagons are sex, wagons are awesome. You don't want the sedan. Your child, eventual probable 2nd child and dog will hate you otherwise. You can thank me later. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=587 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6139
