Got into a accident need some input !
My 335i Coupe was involved in a car accident, quarter Panel and the right rear wheel took the hit, side airbags deployed. Im in the process of fixing it right now..
I know the BST cable blew, so i replaced it, the car started for a quick second and then died.. now it just cranks , but no start, almost like its getting no fuel or spark . I have some things unpluged, like the air bags, passenger seat, i have the tail light and rear bumper off etc etc... but i doubt that makes a diffrence. And ideas what it could be ? |

^ Curious, why aren't you letting the insurance company take care of it?

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

That's really dangerous to fix that kind of stuff yourself, especially if the airbags deployed. You need to take it to a mechanic or preferably BMW service center to get it fixed. You don't really know the extent of the damage it sustained. If you screw up, it could be a safety issue.

How long ago did it lapse? Even though unethical, you could tell them your bank info changed or something and try to reinforce it, then... Nevermind. I'll stop there. Good luck man. I have no idea what the answer to your question is. Maybe grab a bt tool and see if there are codes?

You have to program a BST??? You have to program the MPM... not a BST. You said some things are unplugged. Plug them back in. If it started up and then just dies that means the BST works (all it does is disconnect the battery, if it didn't work there would be a no crank).
If it started up once and now just cranks, my first thought is no fuel pressure. See if one of the things unplugged/damaged is the EKP/EKPS which is the fuel pump controller. Also you can remove your rear seat cushion and check the power to the fuel pump (two large wires on the right side of the tank) for 11+ volts while cranking. If you can't figure that out, it'd prob be best to tow it in and pay an hour to pull faults. There is no real way to check fuel pressure without a special tool or the tester for a 335. |

Ditto!!!!
More than ditto...is it lawful in NY to drive an uninsured car? In DC, you have to return your plates if your insurance lapses and the fine is some crazy amount. Anyway, your only hope is that the other driver can be found to be clearly at fault, in which case, you may have some recourse financially.

I don't know specifically for all places of the world...but I do know that liability is required in almost every country on this planet.
And the ones that don't require it...there you really need full coverage... As for the Op, hope you resolve this without major problems. |

Unbelievable , letting it lapse is just inexcusable, if you couldn't afford it then maybe you should have thought twice about the brand of car you purchased...and how do you think you're going to get it 'as good as new' now? SOL Bro, it's a project car now |

If you are digging that deep into a repair such as the one you are undertaking, I'd recommend getting the Bentley E90 repair manual. I think it is actually a US DOT regualtion that cars with electric fuel pumps have a safety fuel shutoff built into the fuel system that cuts power to the fuel pump. On most cars there is a reset button behind a panel, or in the trunk, or under the hood somewhere. I've always thought that with BMW's BST it meets the requirement of the fuel shutoff, but maybe there is a reset button too. Or maybe it is just the fuse, maybe the fuse blows when the BST fires off. Just guessing. The owner's manual doesn't mention one (most OM's do on other cars) but given BMW's proclivity to just tell you to go to the dealer for everything (even to add oil) it'd be not suprising that there is one in the car somewhere and it is not mentioned in the owner's manual. When I get out to garage today I'll check my Bentley and see if it has any information about it.

OP: Sorry I asked. Now almost everyone is focusing on your insurance and not trying to help you out.

Lapse, or elected to drop coverage? They're two different things. My insurance agent when I just switched recommended that I drop all coverage on my 1998 Nissan to save $$$. I have had full coverage since March 1998 and have never so much as made one claim. I've lived in a city of what 8.4 mil over that period and still no claim. So that's a pretty good argument to self insure. I went against what was recommended as $100 deductible comp was $28/6 mos. I was figuring one windshield in 4 years would break-even on that.
Lapse is another story, get in any accident and now you're faced with a fine, surcharges for 3 years, and loss of license. In many states, the 2nd offense is jail time. The worst is when you get into an accident, are at fault, and the victim doesn't have sufficient coverage either. Now you have a lose-lose. |

Though I'm not good with my calculations--paid $390 for tire/wheel insurance on the 335 figuring a RFT is over $400 ea., and 50 mos. later never used it.

Bad wording on my part i guess, i didnt want to explain what happen with my insurance but i guess thats what were all concerned about.. I recently moved into a new house, with that i switched over my Car insurance due to a better deal i was getting with another company, they sent a letter that i need to get a photo inspection done but it was sent to my old address, never got it, after calling everyone and switching over addresses, i later got a letter that my insurance had been downgraded to liability ONLY untill i get my photo inspection done, i took the car out that day went to work, figuring after work id get the photo inspection done, Lent the car out to a good friend who ended up crashing the car. ( He is paying for everything ). It was his fault so other insurance isnt paying, but i feel no need to go into detail as to what exactly happen during the accident.
As far as taking it to a mechanic, i own a auto repair shop im very familiar with what the extent of the damage is and what is needed, My top tech is currently on vacation so im not able to put him on my car to fix it, i do have my body guy already on the car. I came on here to see if it was something simple that i was missing. Thanks to all that helped |
