Does your car have the factory alarm?

Nope perfectly fine. BMW designed it that way. If you are panicked you are suppose to jump in the trunk. The thieves will see what a pussy you are, point, and walk away laughing.

You dont have the factory alarm from BMW, yes the car is a expensive luxury automobile.. and it doesnt come standard with alarm.... BUT No one can steal bimmers with the technology and the tracking systems on our cars. Unless they have the key but at that point call bmw assist they can turn the car off and send the police to where the car is located....

When you need to panic, you cant use your car to get attention, fight instead or use a weapon.

No skills required. All you need is a tow truck and you can steal any car.

By the time the car is reported stolen and BMW Assist has been given authorization to track the vehicle, the car will have it's battery disconnected and in the process of being stripped.

No power....no tracking.

OP does your car beep when you unlock/lock? If not, you don't have an alarm....unless someone disabled the beep. You can also check the clown nose under the rear view mirror. If it blinks when your car is locked, you have an alarm. If not, you don't.

No but if you get an aftermarket system, you'll also need to use another FOB to control the alarm. :/

What they mean is that after holding the button for 3 seconds, your trunk still won't open and YOU will panic as you realize the car has to go back into the dealership for service

At the risk of sounding like an old man. If it came down to it let them have the car and report it asap.

You can always replace the car. It's not worth risking your life over.

Yeah especially since insurance will pay for it.

Kind of weird that you need the alarm to have the panic mode though. I think most cars would just honk the horn repeatedly even if you don't have the factory alarm installed. Also weird that there's no separate button for it on the fob.

While we're on the subject of weirdness why doesn't BMW put the door unlock button on the armrest of the front seats like everyone else??? They specifically mention in the manual that you shouldn't lock anyone inside the car because it requires special knowledge to unlock it lol. I've never heard of people getting locked INSIDE a car before (except for small children of course). Kind of a dumb design decision no?
