Magnetic drain plugs -- a proven way to prolong the life of your engine.

Motor oil works best when it is uncontaminated. Continuous friction in your engine creates tiny metal particles that contaminate the oil. These particles are measured in microns (one millionth of a meter: 25 microns = .001"). Oil filters catch the particles larger than about 35 microns, but they do not remove the smaller particles. Even after an oil change, there are still contaminants left in the engine. Over time, these metal particles are circulated millions of times, polishing (wearing) down the metal components inside your engine, degrading its performance and shortening the engine's life until it wears out. Magnetic drain plugs remove the smaller metal particles the oil filter can't, extending the useful life of your engine. It is also less likely that you will experience oil oxidation, as the metal particles that contribute to the process of oxidation adhere to the magnet. Installed one in my car during my 'inbetween' oil change. Haven't had a chance to look at it though after running a while, as I haven't got to the dealer oil change yet. Got mine from ECSTuning though.

While these certainly don't hurt anything and are generally cheap, I wouldn't expect your engine to last longer due to this mod. It's nice and can't hurt, but it barely helps, if at all.

I have seen small amounts of metal from changing my oil, but also I change my oil every 5k. You may see more if your going the 15k or one year

Are the ones from this site constructed well? The ECS ones fall apart and such. Im hoping for a solid piece. Is the magnet really strong? Is it glued in or welded or what? Sorry to ask so much. Thanks

Not all the metal in the oil is magnetic. Bearing material and even the coatings on the rings are usually not. Only the cylinder walls are unless of course they are coated.

My first oil change from the oil plug from Bavarian.com i seen a bunch of gunk on it... but that was only once... since then, the magnet has stayed pretty clean (2nd change this past december).

I should have took a pic when i did it about a year ago. I hear the 335's are a little worse when you use it the first time, but i haven't compared this theory.
