Transfering itunes to new mac

Hey i recently picked up a new mac, i have an old mac that i want to transfer my itunes library from to the new mac. Having a tough time figuring out the best way to do this. BTW i have an ipod touch if i can use that. Any help appreciated. Thanks guys.

I've transferred my music files by external hard drive to my new pc and it should work the same for macs.

Home Sharing should work too.

Googling will give you many different solutions, I would also suggest doing that if you haven't already.

I guess i thought it would be as easy as throwing all my music on my ipod and just loading it onto the new mac, doesn't appear to be the case...

I have a few methods...

1. Return it right away and buy 2 better pcs for around the same price, and have some money left over for drinks.

2. Throw it out the window and forget you ever bought it.

Easiest way is with a firewire cable. Start the new one in target mode and copy all the files you want over from the old one to the new one.

Take both computers to your local apple store, they will do all of this for free.

For people saying things like "buy a pc", You are silly, I have to use PC's at my office, and I am very thankful I have 3 Mac's at home to use with everyday life.

Macs are fine for basic users, ill agree with that.

Copy the folder to external drive or DVDs is probably the best way (which you should be doing anyway in order to back up your library/purchases).

Funny, it was pretty damn easy for me. Since I use TimeMachine (PC users should be well aware of the need for backing up, although I don't know if it's quite as simple), all I had to do was restore my latest backup on my Mac Mini to my iMac. Yea...sooo difficult.

For a company that markets their ease of use to the world. I find it odd that it is realtively more difficult to do this when compared to a PC (PC + Mac user)

On your new mac, i would suggest that you group all the music files into one folder so that your music library can easily be transferred through a simple USB flash drive. The problem with itunes is that it is simply just an organized list of all the music that could be anywhere on your computer. This is what makes it complicated to move your itunes library, itunes doesn't actually save any of it :P

Make sure that your old mac and new mac are running the same versions of iTunes.

Copy your itunes folder from your old computer, to your new computer. When you start itunes, if it doesn't see the songs, then close itunes, and open itunes with the OPTION button held down. Then itunes will ask you where your music library files are and you should be good to go.

I think the real issue is how you have to go about transferring music.. The Icraps should work as a USB drive, but then people wouldn't be forced to use Itunes so yeah...
