Do You Have The OEM Alarm Installed In Your e90?

Just discovered that I don't have an alarm in my car, this is my first BMW, and I assumed with a 330d, I'd already have an alarm!

Hmm.

[s]Do most people fall for this trick? Is it expensive to retrofit?

I suppose that's what you get for buying 2nd Hand! At the moment, not having folding rear seats and alarm have annoyed me so far...[/s]

Whoo hooo! Alarm is standard, but in america its not (apparently!)

Apparently, to set it off, you hold down your Boot button for 5 seconds on your key and that should activate the panic alarm?

Also, if you try to open your boot with the key, it should sound the alarm....

Mine does nothing?

I take the removable key bit out when I go surfing (and stick it in an Aquapac)- The remaining remote bit goes in the car - when I unlock it (using the keyhole), the alarm sounds until I switch it off with the remote fob - could try that?

Thanks 335d, I'll try it when I get home....but searching the forum, no chirp, no alarm (american users).

Also, someone in the office has said that most used car dealers disable/disconnect the alarms?

I ONLY hear mine when I go surfing - it's never gone off apart from then.

The Landy alarm goes off all the time when we accidentally arm it when the doors are still open - doh!

You'll definately have an alarm, and probably an immobiliser.

Chuck a brick through the windscreen - that'll test it .

Lock the car with someone inside it (or something similar) and see if they set off the alarm.

Do you have the clown's nose on the mirror? Unless it's a dodgy import then it will definately have an "anti-theft device" as the law requires it in the UK.

Could the anti theft device simply be an immobiliser and not an alarm as well, as is the case on the wifes Corsa?

By law yes but I'm sure BMW never made such a configuration. Is the ultrasonic sensor box on the roof lining?

I never thought about doing that. I always just stick my key up under the bumper. Need to try this as I've got an aquapac for use with hire cars.

You certainly have an alarm - even a base spec 316d ES has an alarm!

Look at the handbook and it will describe how to deactivate it for use on a ferry etc.

Cool.

I feel stupid now. We have an alarm, its like a high pitched recurring beep.

Wife used the simple method....use the damn key on the drivers side when the alarm is on. (I thought I did this, but it was dark when I tried!)

Wonder why the boot key thing didnt work, or the rape alarm...?

European cars dont have the alarm chirp anymore due to some EU legistlation in states you can have it so hence the no chirp no alarm comments on US side of things.

Thats one thing though I have about LCI no key hole in boot. Easiest test is lock car with windows down wait 5 minutes and reach fully inside should set it off. Or open it with the key in the door if its a LCI.
