New SUV for my mother... opinions
So, my mother is finally ready to give up that MDX... She has had 2 of them now and is ready to move along due to the current ones battery issues. SO here is what I came up with...
BMW X5 MB GL450 Audi Q7 (4.2) She likes the Range Rover, but im scared of those for some reason... I would love your guys opinions and ideas for other cars aswell!

X5 unless you really, really absolutely need that extra third row in the back, in which case the Q7 would be a better choice bcs more room back there. However, the Q7 is boat-longer than a 'Slade

As far as I know its too small for her. She has a 3rd row in the MDX obviously, but doesnt use it that often anymore. My personal preference would be an X5 4.8i with ZSP and of course 20s, but that may be out of the price range so we will see. What does everyone think of Range Rover?

Q7 if it's actually a people hauler. I'm a pretty big Audi fan when it comes to anything besides the 3 series. We're probably buying my wife one in a few months ( ... as soon as winter's gone; Audi dealers here suddenly get negotiation amnesia when the weather's bad and everybody decides they need an AWD car for .2" of snow.)
But I've never really been a fan of the X5. It's just so plopped in the middle of mediocrity ... it doesn't do one thing particularly well. It's not an off-roader (something that we used to need but decreasingly so) and it's not a people hauler (if you have kids the trunk space is awful). It's just a big lumbering oaf of a car. But it's a great poser mobile for brand whores. We're deciding between the Q7 and the GL. Q can be had almost 10k cheaper for the options we want, we're used to Audi depreciation, we like the dealers in our area (only 2) and my wife really likes the styling. GL has more 3rd row and cargo room, and the engine feels a LOT stronger eventhough on paper they're close. Q7 kind of wheezes-out at high rpm. But I'm not fond of the current MB reincarnation of 80's pontiac tacked on styling bits. And the dealers here refuse to budge off MSRP. |

PS. I liked the RR Sport a LOT but just cause it looks so cool ... I can admit I can appreciate a poser SUV too. But we had a couple of friends with Disco 2s back in the day and heard many horror stories about reliability issues. So for us it's one of those, 'yah it's cool, but don't think I want to make it a daily driver' kind of cars.

if u can afford a range rover then i would rather go with the x5 and if it is a normal range rover, its about the same price as a 4.8 with all the goodies

I would get the X5
I have driven both other cars on the track, auto-x, and street. The Q7 drives like a minvan and the MB is so cheap inside I threw up. The x5 is her best choice IMO.
