Proper forum grammer...(ahem) grammar
Ok, I'm not an english teacher or anything close, but does some of the grammatical errors on this forum make you slightly annoyed? Also, people that use text language to the point where it's almost hieroglyphics!
I've been reviewing job applications and came across a cover letter that read: "I'm ure new (position being offered)..." To summarize, if you know the difference between "to, too and two" you should be okay. I need to eat a snicker's now, haha. *Flames welcome |

It is annoying to see bad grammar but you have to get used to it anyway I suppose. The one that gets me giggling all the time is when people use "grill" instead of "grille" when refering to their car's grille. I always get this picture of Home Depot in my head when they are asking where they could buy a blacked-out grill.

I'm a pretty bad speller myself and don't often worry about others, except when a self proffesed automotive brake expert starts patting himself on the back claiming to know it all about car break systems. The same holds true for those audio experts telling others their system is all wrong because of this, that and their base levels are to high.

The meaning of rhetorical devices tends to elude you, yes?
You're not mocking him. You're simply pointing out the hypocrisy in his complaint. It's not sarcasm. To help figure out whether something is sarcastic, say it out loud, and if you didn't use a sarcastic tone of voice, it probably isn't sarcastic. If you had added something like: "What a fine grammarian you are!", then it would be sarcastic. Note: I probably screwed up the the grammar somewhere in that last sentence. A quote with an exclamation point mid-sentence is not something I usually deal with. I think the comma goes outside because of the exclamation point, and I think you need a colon before a quote that's a complete sentence, but I'm not sure. |
