When I toggle that little switch button on the turn indicator...

All I can get to is the check settings and time and date settings.

I want to change a multitude of things on the car. Am I doing something wrong?

What things do you wish to change and have you checked them out in the owner's manual?

Yes, I've checked and followed the directions. It says to turn on the ignition, and use the toggle to go up and down until I find whatever I'm trying to change. I can only toggle to Computer System, Time and Date.

I'm trying to activate the triple turn signal because I bought the car used and the one-turn is currently active.

I don't have iDrive if that helps.

I was surprised to discover I can't set it through the computer on either my 328i or 128i - but both cars have iDrive. I have noticed that the dash computer "Service Info" is only available when stopped with the motor idling, even though the manual simply says to "switch on the ignition" - so you might try doing that. If that doesn't work, it sounds like something the dealer will have to sort out.

Good luck.

Did you actually start the engine? I think the engine has to be running in order to change the personal profiles.

The day after buying my car, I sat in the car with the manual and also went nuts trying to figure out why my car didn't match the manual....

Then I started the car (left in Park) and then was able to find the adjustments for triple-blink, DRLs, etc.

They could surely add this somewhat significant piece of information to the manual... but what fun is it when everything works right out of the box?

They do... in the 2011 and 2010 manual for the 3 series sedan without idrive... (with idrive it is controlled in idrive) for triple turn signal, the first step is to "1. Switch on the ignition, refer to page 47."

I'm looking at pdf copies of them....

Correct - but switching on the ignition ("Radio Readiness" in BMW speak) is not enough. The motor must be started and the car must not be driven off - it has to be idling and stationary.

So the manual's instruction is necessary but not sufficient.

Glad the OP got it sorted out.
