328xi off the side of a steep hill

It was late on an unfamiliar windy road that was not lit and I just missed a turn and drove off an embankment. Slammed into a tree which stopped me from going 75 ft further. This was my first accident in my life, and it is very disappointing, but they happen and that is why you pay for insurance. This is also a loaner btw. There were not other passengers and I am fine, just some abrasions where the airbag hit me in the face. Otherwise it was kind of interesting to see how these vehicles act in an accident. I'm obviously pretty impressed, the unlocking the doors, the engine shutoff, the hazards and then the immediate call from sos. Here are some pics for your enjoyment. Best part of the story, I get my car back today.

that's a hell of a first accident! glad you're okay
just wondering, what happens if your insurance doesn't cover rentals, or does bmw insure the cars themselves (sorry for the insurance newbness)

it's my insurance, there was never a question from state farm about if they would cover it.. issued a claim, it is being towed from a tow yard to a collision center which state farm is paying on top of towing fee to the yard and the two days stowage fees.. once the car is repaired state farm pays the bill except 250 for me... I wasn't going more than speed limit, wasn't pushing corners at all.. it was just an unfamiliar windy unlit road and a freak accident.

Wow, the car absorbed the accident like it was it's job. Glad to see in a real life situation, you are here telling us the story shortly after. Glad you are okay and glad you're getting your car back.

I wonder if your premiums go up more if you wreck a rental vs your own car.

speed limit was 30mph.. I probably gained momentum going off the side but the car absolutely did do it's job. I guess that is part of the reason you get these things.

I suspect that the next time OPs car goes in for an oil change it will accidentally fall off the lift.
