2012 Mustang GT or BMW 335is
Hey everyone. I'm in the market for a new car and haved narrowed my search down to two - the Mustang GT and the 335is. They are different machines I know, but still both great performers. I love them both and just can't seem to make a decision. Any recommendations on what way I should go? The 335is will be about $150 extra per month, but that's to be expected I guess.
Thanks again! |

ive been in a 11 gt, and my god those things are fast.
specs are the same as a new M3. though.... i would still go for the 335is. purely because of luxury feel over the bland ford interior. the 335 will have enough go while also seeming...sorry if this isnt mature. but more baller. BMW>Ford. i would drive a mustang though. they sound so bad ass for stock. it is a very performance focused car for a reasonable amount of money! |

It looks like you have a Japanese car right now. It's been my extensive experence that people who own a Japanese car have a difficult time moving to a BMW because of the reliability issues. On the other hand, the Ford Mustang is one of the most reliable cars in the industry regardless of country of origin for the past 8 years or so.
The 335i has a well documented history of being unreliable. You'll hear on this board that the Mustang interior sucks, the car is ugly (but not to any one over 43), and only "rednecks" (I don't condone use of this term) drive them. I chalk that up to guys who need to justify buying a BMW for $15K more than the Mustang GT and lose the performance game. Most young men BMWs because they think it will give them a better chance to get laid. You need to decide what the purpose you will use the car for. If the purpose is to drive a good performance car then get the Mustang. If you want to try to get laid then get the 335i (and hope it doesn't breakdown on a date - in the rain). Purely on a car-guy perspective, I'd go for the Mustang Boss 302 with the Recaro/Torsen LSD option if you are in the price range of a 335i. |

Honestly, fuck any sort of rational thoughts. If practicality isn't an issue, and if you've never owned a V8-engined vehicle in your life, spring for the 'Stang. Enjoy that V8 now before its gas chugging characteristics make it a financial sinkhole later on in life.
If practicality is even slightly a factor, go for the 335is.

To me...first and foremost above EVERYTHING else (everything else being close second of course), the exterior looks are #1 most important if you're a serious car enthusiast. So go stand next to each car for a while, looking at every line at every angle. Then decide from there. There's no doubt the mustang world is a fun one to be in if you like the look of them. I can't stand the look of them and compared to the look of the 3 series BMW it's god awful IMO...and they are seriously EVERYWHERE...I don't see hardly any BMW's here... Shit, if can spend the money on a 335is...and you choose the stang...get the GT500 for sure....

With fats and skinnies, custom tune I've owned 3 Mustangs in the past and love them. Easy to maintain, something breaks, it's usually cheap, and best of all is the low end torque. If I could afford a 335is, I would probably pick that just because it's an overall "nicer" car. But you can't beat M3 performance type car for 30K. |

??? To an enthusiast I would think performance would be top priority, otherwise you're just a CF and badge junky.

I test drove the new 5.0 before buying the BMW (twice actually) and have to say it's probably the best sports car you can buy for the money.
Better baby that transmission though! http://jalopnik.com/#!5796207/ford-s...-transmissions |

5.0 with the brembo package. You can put a supercharger with a warranty on it for around $7500 and make 550 hp.

The stang has a new 5.0 and its a beast.
The 5.0 is a fastercar, however the interior cant evencompare to the bmw! Its cheap materials and very very dated! The335is is better built and much better looking, however it cannot keep up with the stang, unless you mod it...but you can mod the stang too If youre a young kid get the stang, what do you care about interiors? If youre a grown man get the luxurious/sporty bmw! I would personally take a 335is just because of the looks, but I wod really miss that v8 roar |

Let's not forget that the small turbos on the 335is provide plenty of low end torque too and for minimal money can be tuned above what the Mustang produces.
But then again there is that 5.0 sound... |

OP, just something to remind you. The current 335 is nearing it's end cycle. I believe the current mustang is only been out 1-2 yrs? I don't know how old you are but one car (stang) is more intended for college kids, new grads, young professionals, frat boys/girls. While the 335 "seems" to be for young professionals and higher though some snootiness is also associated with BmW's. It comes down if this makes any difference in your decision and if it doesn't than great, pick the car that you will have most fun with! Either car is great but I would lean towards GT350/500 over current 345is OR wait till new body style comes out. Good luck!!!
