Good deal??? Help a newbie out!
I am preparing to purchase this vehicle:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=517311 Its an 06 e90 330i with some nice upgrades and a brand new tranny clutch flywheel and rebuilt top end. clean carfax. 76k miles The price is at 17,000 at the moment and I have commited to buy. Just curious if this is a good deal? fair deal? or bad deal? (im aalmost positive it cant be a bad deal) post your opinion! thanks |

without seeing and driving the car, kind of hard to say, but the price alone sounds like a good enough deal, esp with new tranny and clutch and upper cylinder replaced by dealer, I hope he meant BMW dealer with quality work?

He did mean BMW dealer. To put my mind at ease he is the service manager of the european motor cars shop here as well. The reason for the new tranny was because he said it "made a slight noise i didnt like and i bitched till it was changed" same story with the top end rebuild.
The car also has a few extras not mentioned such as a clear bra and also not a single chip in the paint that i could see. |

Assuming all the fluids (including transmission and power steering) have been changed out, not too bad.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

The car drives smoother than my friends 04 530i, alittle stiffer but insanely smooth in the corners. UUC short shifter is insane (im coming from the e46 330i ZHP and theres no comparison on the quality of the shift....e90 w/ uuc FTW)
My only concern before I bought the car was the miles (76k) but with the new transmnission and rebuilt top end....my mind was put to ease a bit and i commited. Still...its 76k miles. Is that a big deal? Id like to think that this NA N52 engine will easily hit 200k miles without any major problems. I managed to sell my 04 e46 ZHP w/ 69k miles for $17k. Im esentially falling into this e90 for nothing but a 3% sales tax (i needed new tires and belts on the e46 so I may have even saved $$) so you can imnagine that this seems like a steal to me considering what I sold the e46 for. regardless im going through with the sale. love the car. just want others to pat me on the back and assure me i made a good deal! haha |

I bought my 2006 330i one year ago with 64k miles. The price was $18,500 plus tax. I already replaced the front and rear brakes ($1,200) plus tires ($1,100). Looks like you are getting a good deal.
Go for it ! |

I definitely hear you on the 335 but I am buying without a CPO and unfortunately unlike many on this forum I am still several years away from being rich. I want somnething solid but i cant live without a bmw. the reliability factor for me trumps the speed of the 335i.

From my experience, reliability of a specific car has to do more with how it was driven as opposed to how much. A newer car with higher mileage and 1 owner would have been most certainly used for commuting purposes only as opposed to a 5-6 year old car with lower mileage and few owners. You lose a bit of the premium feel with the 328, and it may likely be optioned less, (and I'm forgetting the 20 hp ) but reflecting on my purchase, it's probably something I should have given more consideration. Regardless, there isn't as big a difference since they all have essentially the same great N52. For me, all that matters is the history and deal of the specific car. Good luck and post photos if you pick up the 330! |

Just for peace of mind could you take it to another dealer/mechanic and have them do a pre-purchase inspection?
Its unclear if you're more concerned about reliability or if you're getting a good deal on the car though.

Im concerned about both reliability and not getting a bad deal. One without the other is useless to me.
