anyone "reskin" their shift knob?

I am thinking there must be some kind of replacement for the "chrome" part on my shift knob. I want to replace it because it has spider web cracks along the face where the shift diagram is and in some areas, the chrome is starting to come off, exposing the white material underneath. I was thinking about replacing the entire knob but it seems this will happen again if I get the same chrome oem. I guess I could just buy a complete wood grained knob but I'm not really digging the wood. I'd put on a carbon fiber cover or a real metal cover. If anyone knows, please share, thanks in advance!

If it's manual, just buy a new one. If its auto, deal with it.

My auto selector is doing the same thing, it's got a really sharp edge above the button. Anyone have better advice besides 'deal with it'? I tried to reglue it but no luck.

get the M sport one and matching handbrake and wheel if you can afford it. feels and looks great, not too expensive if you find a deal on them used.
