Got my first speeding ticket...

So I was going back home from the gym. It was about 2pm and I was few miles away from my house. Cop pulls me over. He says: I clocked you at 64mph in a 50. He said he could've gave me a 254$ fine, but instead he gave me a violation of traffic control device which is around 150$. I've had no speeding tickets for over 3 years. I know its not a super long time, but I made it through with 6 other bmw that I have owned.
Anyone else want to share their first E90 speeding ticket story?

Congratulations for getting your first speeding ticket. You can have it framed on your wall.

I got my first ticket in my bmw last week. Pulling onto an on ramp with traffic coming like crazy. Merged into traffic rather quickly. A cop was under a approaching inclince, so he clocked me when i just came on the interstate. He said I was going 15 over, and I explained to him I was merging into traffic. Anyways still got the ticket, but contemplating what action I'm going to take.

What the hell is a "violation of traffic control device"?

It's an early christmas present from the cop, no points and not a moving violation.

We were on our way through Oklahoma on the turnpike and my wife gets pulled over for doing 66 in a 45 construction zone. Cop says he won't put construction zone on the ticket.

Wife calls court house a couple weeks later and asks if there is anything they can do? They call back a couple days later and say, "we'll mark it down to 9 mph over and it'll be $150." Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

If you got not a moving violation, that's key....let's face it, it's not hard to find people who broke the law. Anytime the cop reduces the potential violation, he's doing you a favor, because he won't do that for people who act like jerks to him.

I got a 52 in a 25 in my own neighborhood, which was stupid on my part. Cop was nice and told me 3X to plead not guilty and show up. He used the word "lenient."

On my day for court I took off and it snowed so hard the court was closed. F************************!!!!! It was postponed 3 weeks, I went, and they dropped it to 30 in a 25, and the fine went down about $60. I got curious if 0 pts meant no insurance problem, etc., so I had to wait 6 mos., then pay like $10 to check my record online. It never showed up.

The worry with tix is that under the right circumstances, it could be a 40% surcharge--that's why I have ever since been much more careful with the speed.

Good luck op...

I got my first speeding ticket a month after I got my 335i. It was 103mph on a very empty highway. 30 day license suspension (this hurt the worst), $800 fine and 2 points

Where I'm at if you go to court and don't have a ticket in 3 years, you plead guilty with explanation, and tell the judge you would like him to consider probation before judgment based on your driving record. Works every time in my county in MD. You get 12 months probation, and no points, usually reduces the fine and you pay court costs.

What's is like down your way in FL?

Usually if your record is clean for 3+ or 5+ (cant remember) they usually drop the fine to a non moving violation based on your clean driving history.

I have no idea. I never went to court to fight any of my tickets. I kinda feel like I deserved it. Because lately I have been driving it as if I stole it.

Not to feel bad, when I was in college I got caught 155 in a 55, and my penalty was far worse than yours.

You should change the way you drive imho, that is, if you don't want to get caught, pay fines, etc. My cousin is a gambler, he plays craps, 21, and baccarat, and he fully believes speeding is a calculated risk, and that the reward is there. He told me he was doing 125 on the MA Pike and a SRT8 Grand Cherokee or something blew his doors off, and he's got an M5. There are people who believe in pay to play, I don't agree. You can wind up harming others with this activity....and you really have to have a lot of money to just shrug off the insurance surcharges...

I've had my 335 for 3 years now and always drive 65-70 to work on a 55 limit highway. Never got a ticket. The one weekend my wife decides to take the Bimmer to the coast with her girlfriends I get stuck driving our Truck to Yoga class and got a ticket for 70 in a 55! Decided to do the online diversion class so the ticket would get dropped, but afterwards ended up paying more for the class then the ticket and wasting 5 hours of my life on stupid crap I already know.

I got the same citation last Sunday....I was clocked going 74 in a 45 but the officer gave me a break.

No points here in Philly.

Ah, not so good, then...around here any kind of "technical" violation like that doesn't count against points.

They were definitely being nice to you -- could have hit you with reckless driving!
