335IS stock exhaust note, raspy???
Hey guys, got a 335is on order and saw one this morning take off and it sounded pretty raspy.. It was a stock exhaust for sure.. To all u IS owners, im hearing the exhaust notes are one of the big compliments on the car and from the youtube videos they sound pretty nice. Does the stock exhaust sound raspy like that?? I was expecting a nicer deep tone then what i heard. I also drove a 135 msport w dct and i was expecting our 335is to sound similar and it doesnt. Any input would be cool, thanks...

I wouldn't call it raspy because rasp is what the E46 M3 had. But when you're on the gas kind of hard to full throttle, the noise changes drastically when you hit 4500 revs. Obviously not easy to describe a sound with words, but my take on it is that the sound you hear seems to come from further up on the exhaust pipes...like a loud hollow sound. The raspiness comes when you accelerate hard when the engine is not all the way warmed up. If you were local I'd let you hear mine.

The stock IS exhaust has some rasp and burbles... but I really like that characteristic. It's by no means annoyingly raspy.
On my car, the exhaust note changes depending on engine temps, etc. Seems like the longer I drive it (more warmed up), the more subdued the exhaust. I'm a bit disappointed at how relatively quiet the exhaust is, but exhausts on turbocharged cars never sound as nice as N/A cars. |

The exhaust is one of the things that sold me on the IS. I was all set to purchase an '11 328ic and figured I'd test drive the 335is 'vert for the hell of it. Ordered it a few days later. Pretty amazing exhaust.

I wouldn't say its "raspy" but higher pitched.
It has a lot of character that's for sure and many of them and It really depends on the gear/rpm you get different sound and pitch levels. It can sound high pitched at times where you what more bass notes. If your idling and press the gas there is no bass to it since the exhaust valve muffles everything. I'm surprised if they had their exhaust sound engineer tune this muffler or not... I'm thinking they didn't.
Outside the car it can at times be loud and sound sweet if your in manual DCT mode and hold the gear longer and slowly build up speed and higher rpm before shifting. In "D" mode its pretty tame unless you do wide open throttle. It actually has an Italian sports car sound/flare to it. Nothing like my neighbor's Ferrari California but you get the idea. The videos don't do it justice. You can get the basic sound level but until you have the windows down and punch it, the videos won't do it justice. See this thread for a couple of videos http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486266 I admit I wish it had a deeper tone but not aftermarket Mustang deep though. Here's another one but he's driving in "D" mode but you can get an idea of the revs. Quote:
