Black ceramic Idrive control knob

So seeing a sweet new 650i cab on the street prompted me to check out the bmwusa site. Saw that a black ceramic idrive knob/control is a $650 option on the new 6. Was wondering if anyone was able to secure the knob through parts and do a swap. It looks pretty sweet and would look better in my all black car. But if the option is that pricey, I don't even want to know how much it would be through parts...

A family member has a black F01 with the pearl black iDrive and it looks awesome. Not sure how you would source the part though - maybe try calling dealer?

Have always thought this would be a cool mod, my Mom's F01 has the ceramic trim and it's really awesome. Gets pretty hot in the summer though.

Part number 61319247893 (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...08&hg=65&fg=50)

At this time, it doesn't show up on any of the US BMW parts sites that I checked but it is listed on European sites for around $225 + shipping (http://www.schmiedmann.com/613192478...uctnumber.aspx)

the other day I was at my dealers and while waitin I helped myself to a 7series m sport. It had that glossy black i drive unit - I was told it was exclusive for the m sport 7 series. Can we retrofit it?

from what i've seen all the controllers are the same in each car. so a retrofit should be possible.. i'm not 100% sure on that though
