seafoam

I put seafoam in the vacuum pump yesterday. There was a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust and was reving it past 4k rpm. The smoke went away so I thought it was fine but I didn't drive anymore for the day. So today I'm driving and all of a sudden the car starts losing power I stop then all of a sudden white smoke surrounds my car. So I rev the engine I for about 15 seconds. The smoke clears and I see a kid on a trycycle staring at me with his mouth open. So I go back home in limp mode restart the car and is running like new again.

Op, just wait till car is warmed up and do a 0-155 pull... it should blow out all the buildup

We tried seafood at our shop when it first came out on a Malibu and during the test drive it blew up, the stuff sucks, I can't believe they are still in business, this isn't the only case I've heard of either, a shop down the street had it happen a few months later as well on a Yukon.

If you want something a bit more useful (but still dangerous):
water

Yes, plain old water. Let small amounts of it get sucked up into the intake, enough to drop the engine RPMs a bit, no more. Do this for perhaps a pint's worth of water over a period of, say, 20 minutes.
The water flashes into steam, and viola! Steam cleaning.

The biggest danger of this scheme: hydrolock. Bad juju, that.

worst suggestion i have ever seen on this forum. how could you EVER suggest someone let water be ingested into their motor?

do NOT listen to that guy.

When it first came out? Back in the 1930s you did this test? Seafoam has been around for ages.

Using seafood was your problem.

im sorry, i don't care who is recommending it, im not putting water in my engine. mikeistheoil guy suggests you should pour a gallon of distilled water and my dip spit in your motor to remove all carbon buildup.

please dont confuse your self. water injection is a mix of water/alc. little different.

Fair enough, if you don't like the dangers associated with it, then don't do it. But it works, and to claim it doesn't is....wrong. Against-the-facts style of wrong.

It's been in use and working since approximately the invention of the internal combustion engine.

Isn't it recommended to change your oil and spark plugs after using seafoam?

I believe only when you put it directly in the oil. Just realised that I left it in the engine for about 20 hours, hopefully nothing bad happend.

Yeah it came out in the 30's for outboard motors, and they probably haven't changed it since, its no wonder it does not work for todays advanced engines.

Update!

Drove the car to 105 mph today and no problems. Seems as if it revs smoother and the engine is a little quieter... gotta get that cold air intake.
