just came from test drive.......2008 c-class

well,10 minutes ago i test drove the new c-class.I was ready to buy an e90 but i was waiting for this day to come......i am a bmw fan also previous owner of e36 coupe for 10 years and also previous owner of 2004 clk so i know the differences between the two companies....I sold my clk 2 months ago and i was ready to buy my bimmer again(e90),also i said to myself never again mercedes!! But today after i test drove the new c class (was avantarde) i got crazy over the car......i think mercedes this time made an excellent car(sporty and elegent).....so i think i am going for it......but still feel a little sad inside because deeply inside i also like the new 3 series.

I want to test drive one of these, but I hate to do so with no intention of buying. I miss the days when I was looking for a new car and test driving everything in sight.

Well, the new C-class should be a very good car, no comparison with the old one. The Avantgarde looks also quite sportive with the bodykit. Only the rear looks not so good - but this is my personal opinion, the front with the big star is okay.
Which engine did you drive? The C350 has got a high consumption - with automatic min. 11-12 litres!

Actually I am curious about the W-204 as well. What say you and I go for a test drive when these puppies hit our shores. I also expect some sort of nationally campaigned ride n drive events to be staged in conjunction with the new C. I'll keep a lookout for those as well

Yes, I'd be up for that. I just checked out some reviews, though, and I'm not encouraged. For one thing, NO MANUAL TRANSMISSION for the C350 Sport. WTF?

I am not sure why you posted this here. You might want to try the following forum:

I am happy you are satisfied with your decision. Good luck with your MB. When you pick a german car in that category, you can't go wrong.

Without test driving it or seeing one in person, I must say the rear is the most disappointing part of the car. In terms of styling, I really am not a fan of the latest iterations of mercedes. So just the looks would turn me away from this brand. In terms of performance, I can't comment but I would imagine it would not be on top of the 3 series.

Agreed with all on styling. Plus, 1st year reliability on MB cars are dodgier than say, our cars. But curious to test this car after all this heralding of extensive testing/research/development.

Was just studying some photos of the new C last night and was thinking how much better/more interesting looking the 3 Series is. If I blur my eyes, I see more than a hint of Honda Accord in the C's profile (especially around the C-pillar).

Of course, looks are subjective. The main thing I'd be concerned with is quality/reliability. MB has been really hurting in that department lately, so I'd be particularly hesitant to pick up one in its first year.

Best of luck to you either way.

I hope that Mercedes has improved their quality. I had a 2002 SL 500 Silver Arrow that was taken back by the dealer and traded for a new one in lieu of a lemon law claim. Additionally, I test drove an E 55 2 years ago that had a broken compressor--that's right, the demo with 1 or 2 k miles had a broken compressor.

Anyway, in my opinion, the Mercedes are beautiful vehicles. I have owned 3 in the past. Their quality control is not great these days. Granted, BMW isn't at the top of the quality control list either. However, I believe that Mercedes is at the bottom.

Enjoy!

Just spoke to my rep at MB and he told me they arent getting the new C-class till August. Not even getting training on it till Junish. Too bad for them that my 335 will be delivered before I get a chance to test drive it.

Is the new model already being displayed at all the MB dealerships? As i'm interested to see one in person too.
