Beemer Hatred?
This is my first bmw. I love the car and just purchased a set of wheels..I cant wait to mount them on the car, etc. Here is my question. Since, I have owned this car I have gotten nothing but rude comments, stares, etc? I was at the gas station the other day fueling up. A lady over at the next pump says its people with sports cars that waste our gas supply (or something to that degree)? I dont ever recall saying two words to this lady? Im like are you talking to me? Grumpy old bird.
Today as I was getting out of my car to go to lunch, sat outside on a patio (i parked in front). I heard some folks at a table (on the patio) say some retarded crap (which I ignored) The car is stock (i keep it clean by washing once a week lol) nothing special? Perhaps its all in my head. I dont really care about what people say but a few times I felt like it might escalate because people feel as if its ok to be disrespectful openly? I think I am courteous and smile usually? I dont know what it is? Never encountered this behavior when I drove a subaru. I am just a regular joe that goes to work everyday and bust my hump. Please tell me I am looking into this way too much? What has been everyone else experience. I wonder if it is due to where I live; its primarily a blue collar town? Idk? Thanks for your input. |

what is the "retarded crap" that they said?
As long as I'm not driving like an asshole, people don't tend to stare me down. My 335 has averaged over 25 mpg over my last 1,000 miles with 70/30 highway/city split... pretty sure there are plenty of cars on the road who aren't hitting that. |

Definitely because the blue collar town. I went to South Dakota one time and went inside a local steakhouse to eat and everyone stared at me like I was some colored boy from the 50's when separation was legal. And I'm not even black!

One of the first things that Ford Execs told Alan Mulally, when he took his position, was to dump his Lexus.
If I were still living in my hometown, I'd be wearing cowboy boots and driving a 4X4 pick'm-up truck jacked 5 foot in the air. Instead, I live in an area where 3-series are given away as graduation presents and Ford is trying to figure out how to break into the market.

Ignore it dude. Who the hell cares? Do what you want to do. People just love to be miserable and make others miserable. It's not like we drive Ferraris!

As others have said, just try to ignore it. They just might be having a bad day.

Some people aren't happy unless they are complaining about something
and you know God doesn't want them, so we have to deal with them here on earth, until the devil is ready for them.

If you read some of the threads you understand there are those BMW owners who are egocentric and think the car makes them special.
same for other premium brands mind you. If you have lots of mods and love to show it off then your gonna get hate. Many Mod people like to be different and express this with the car. Thats where the hate starts to come in as some translate that as "showing off". I have read some of the mod squad and some really do value their cars as a prize and look down on lesser spec models and naturally other brands. You exist, and thats where there is hate. If you are explaining to people "I could not live with comfort access" then your gonna get hate. we are a car crazy country for sure. IN europe conspicuous consumption is frowned upon and here its glorified. IN Europe they debadge bigger displacement motors where here we do it to avoid shame of havng a smaller displacement motor. It is more politically correct to drive a smaller engine car than flaunt it in europe. But who am I to say? Its not like Im driving a Carmry. I guess Im a Teutonic dick-head myself! |

When I correct people that say "Beemer" (in person) they automatically think i'm a BMW douche bag. So I just let it be, of course it varies who you are speaking with. IMO, Beemer sounds way better than Bimmer and wish it was the other way around. Oh wellz

Hey, if people hate, just respond "It's not yours to hate... sorry!". People are just people... Not one single person thinks the same. We all have different tastes, opinions, socio-economic backgrounds and what not. You have your first BMW.. be proud and happy for yourself, and enjoy the car! Some people live life and never had a new car, nice car, or premium brand.. not that its a bad thing but you are enjoying something some people can't... a BMW. There is always something more expensive and better these days. There are always people on this forum going 'zomg the 328 is soooooo sloooowwwww' 'ONLY get a 335!!!!!" wah wah... honestly, there are different power trains for a reason, and not everyone wants to be in the dealer 10x for hpfp and injector issues. Regardless, I love all e90's and most BMW's. Don't let people jealousy or negative opinions get you down. /rant hahaha
