Need Help with Side markers

Hello,

I am new here and was hoping someone could help me. I decided to take my 2006 325i to the car wash to get cleaned, like I have done 1,000 times. After arriving home I realized that someone at the car wash must have broken my side marker light (passenger side) It was hanging down the side of my fender and lucky me had added a couple of nice swirl scratches from rubbing. Awesome. So I tried to put it back, I pushed the light in and tried to slide forward but it doesn't seem to be grabbing anything to keep it from falling back out. Does anyone know the best way for me to fix this or even how to fix it. I have never taken it out before so I am not sure if there is plastic clip or housing that is supposed to be in there. There is a plastic piece towards the back of the light (it's grey) and it appears that a piece of the plastic has broken off but I cant be for sure. I can't deal with my car looking busted! Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Sounds like the metal clip that provides tension to hold it in has gone missing. It could have broken leaving your side marker to come out during the wash so there may not have been someone involved.

Here's a link to what it should look like with the clip installed: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58964

If that's missing, you may need to get a new one. If you do, I suggest going to the LED version.

Most venors here carry the led side markers. Check **********s, jlevisw, and others. I bought the smoked markers with amber led. Looks great!

Bump to an old thread.

I will be taking my car to the dealership tomorrow to get this fixed as the same thing is happening to me (side marker is dangling down but I didn't take my car to a car wash??).

Is there a temp fix for this until I get it to the dealership? Zipties perhaps?
I don't want to be driving it around with it dangling and knocking against my fender.

my driver one kinda falls out easy, so i wash my car myself and get that satisfaction, as for the swilr marks on it, get some NIGHTSHADES lens tint at autozone, just tint them anyways. looks black but signal is highly visible.

No problem......if you get smoked, I am happy with mine on a Space Gray car, try to get ones with plugs, they cost more but they make for a clean install.

Both my left and right side markers came loose when I was hand washing my car and wouldn't firmly attach back on. This happened within the first two months after I bought it new. Dealer replaced them under warrenty.

It hasn't happened again in the past 7 years, so I believe they were installed incorrectly or the installer broke a plastic tab.

Same problem with the wiper blade hinge cover. The retaining tabs seem to break easily.
