What is engine cowl and how do I remove it?

OK, so I'm looking to replace my sparkplugs soon on my 335i. I have ordered all the necessary parts to do so including the socket. I've checked out a few DIY's and it seems pretty straight forward once you have the engine cover off.

In most of the DIY descriptions, it says remove the microfilter, lower cowl, and then the engine cover. What I'm having trouble with is trying to figure out what exactly the lower cowl is?? Can anyone show a picture pointing out what the lower cowl is and how to remove it?

Also my torque wrench is only capable of torquing from 20 - 150 ft/lbs. The specs say to torque at 17 ft/lbs (23 NM), any problems with torquing them at 20 ft/lbs? Or should I invest in another torque wrench cabable of the lower ranges?

Thanks.
