New Guy Thinking of Buying 2006 330xi
I am thinking (very seriously) about buying a 2006 330xi. Is there anything I really need to look for on this car before I seal the deal? Not really sure what a good price is either for a this car with 92K on the clock? It has the Sports Package I know for sure and it's an automatic. Color is white with the saddle brown interior. Looks to be in very good shape, but I have not seen it in person yet. Going to look at it later today.

Check when the breaks were last serviced. With normal wear they will need their 2nd service somewhere near the 100k mark, and that can set you back ~$2500 for all four corners, out of warranty. Also, when test driving listen closely for any ticking from the engine.
Edit : Edmunds.com says $15k to $17k depending on condition, pretty similar results on kbb as well.

2500 for brakes, really? Cmon... either do it yourself or find a solid mechanic to do it. It will NOT cost that much. If you are paying that much, you are a moron and dont value your money.

Thanks. According to Carfax brakes were done around 80K.
I do most of my brake work myself. Is there something about these brakes that would make that something I can not do myself? My son tells me I won't be able to do much on this car myself. Is that true? I am pretty good at doing most everything to my Volvo 850 T5R. |

I have an 06 330xi and it has 60k on it. Bought it with 42k almost 3 years ago and it has been a fantastic car.

I just bought mine 06 330xi. My main proble is overheating. I think the water pump is going in my car. Make sure you drive the car with heat on full and check that it actually blows hot air. cool air from the heater means low coolant which is not a good sign. I don't have any more advice as I have not owned this car long enough, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

If you go to Tischer, OEM front break kit is $700, rear kit $900. If out of warranty figure a couple hundred in labor if you don't take it to the dealership, and if you just take it to the dealership it is ~$2500. Luckily I am still under warranty until next March so I just took it to the dealership and it didn't cost me a thing.

also make sure you drive around with the heat completely off and take it for a long, hard drive, to see if you can get the temps above normal. Make sure your not just driving at high rates of speed as most cars will over heat at much lower speeds as there is no wind blowing to keep it cool. So make sure you go and sit in some traffic as well if the cooling system is a concern for you. Check the records for last rad flush, tran flush, and oil changes.

Also if carfax shows brakes serviced at dealer at 80K and also shows all regular maintenance. There is a good chance that original owner bought maintenance upgrade program which covers the car till 100K or 6yr. Call BMWNA and give them VIN they will be able to tell. That will cover your maintenance including brakes.

I wouldnt pay more then 15K for that car.... honestly. If you want to pay $20K for one, I will sell you mine with 60K on it, I will include all mods (about $4K if i had to guess) or put back to stock your call.

Also, how long can you go, under normal driving condition, between brake changes? The rear brakes seem to wear faster than the front... so there might be some differences there. |

I never said doing a break job yourself wasn't much cheaper than taking it in to get it done, and I didn't say that it was hard to do on this car either. It seems as if Tischer's prices have come down some since I priced this out on their site months ago, but "OEM BMW E9x 3 Series Front Brake Kit - MSRP $909.25" and "OEM BMW E9x 3 Series Rear Brake Kit - MSRP $573.89", is pretty close to what I said before.
But as OP stated, breaks were done at 80k, so this is a non-issue.
