Bought it Friday and Already Put on 600 Miles

The drive home after buying it was about 140 miles and then the trip to DC another 400+. It runs great and got 28 mpg traveling at 70-75 mph on the highway. I also took back roads from Cumberland to Winchester and that was a blast on those back moutain roads.

One thing my wife and I notice is a slight hesitation when you first start out, and even more if you start and make a turn like at an intersection. Is that normal for a 330xi? Does not really feel like there is anything wrong, but it is noticeable. Drives a lot different than the Volvos I've been driving for 25+ years.

The slight hesitation may be from the transmission starting out in 2nd gear (if it's an auto), or just the nature of the drive by wire throttle which is inherently a bit laggy.

Auto or Stick?

If automatic and your in Driving Miss Daisy mode (D) then it may start in 2nd gear. Flip it over to "Son of a B.." mode (S) and it will start in 1st. Starting in 2nd gives you better fuel economy.

If your getting 28Mpg then I assume your in D.

Do the automatics really start out in 2nd gear? I've read this here a few times on here but has it actually been confirmed by BMW. I ask because I can count 5 gear changes on long enough stretches of road so I think it is starting out in 1st and not 2nd.

I had the same hesitation with my 2006 330i. Nothing is wrong with your car. Enjoy it!

It's the drive by wire. You will get used to it.

My new 328i M Sport also has a slight hesitation for a few minutes when starting out, then it's OK after it warms up.
