Bent hood lip

I noticed the other day when I came out from being at the mall, that someone must have backed into my car and bent my hood at the lip. The bend is at the lip of the hood just above the headlight area. Its about 1 inch of a bend...

Can this be bent back to a "somewhat" normal position? I dont want to pay for a new hood. I will try and post some pics too.

I had this same thing happen to my brand new 2011 after 3 months of getting it. I was at Lowes home improvement for less than 5 min, next thing I know on the loud speaker..... "Attention shoppers... Will the owner of a black BMW sedan please come up to the customer service desk" I almost shiz my pants because my gut feeling was telling me something bad happened. The 2 older couple that backed into my car with a Nissan Xterra from the other parking lane (35++ Feet away!! They have wide parking lanes) was telling me that backed up into my car and I went out and I almost cried. The Hood was bent just like yours but in the center, also my bumper was scraped up along with the grills. They wanted to pay out of pocket because they thought it was only going to cost $500 to fix, I got an estimate from the shop of $2100. I got a new bumper cover (Perfect opportunity to get the performance bumper! ) and grills. The hood was to be bent back and re painted. I remember that part of the estimate costing somewhere like $600-$700.

Their excuse for backing up into my car: Sorry we were trying to look forward and see the spot to see if there were any leaks off our car, we were not paying any attention to the back. (Oh god, what if a mother and her child were walking behind them as they backed up)

I have a 500 dollar deductible. I am not sure I want to contact the insurance company or not. Do auto body shops have something that could bend it back without it being very noticeable?

The only thing that is very different from my bend and your is that your bend is on the hood line, mine was just above the right grille missing all my hood lines. I am sure they can bend it back no problem, but you will probably still need a repaint w/ the tool they use. The best thing is to goto a shop and get an estimate, even better get a couple-few estimates.

Certainly not excusable, but I can understand that situation. It's great they came forward and were willing to fix the damage, 99.9% of people would have either not noticed or just left.

I agree that it is not excusable, i'm just glad there was not anyone behind them. I honestly think they would of ran, but they probably paid with their credit card inside so they would have gotten a hit and run.

Your insurance company will consider this a hit and run, and it will be covered by your compehensive not your collision portion. The deductible should be the same as if you were replacing a windshield.

Hmm, I will have to call them and ask. If you are correct, that would be great!
